UCP: The GamesMaster Retrospective

It's Christmas 1997, and what better way to celebrate this holiday season than with a literal child playing Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back with the hope of winning a Han Solo toy, and Emma Harrison from Neighbours dropping by to jiggle about on Rapid River. It's a... mixed bag of an episode.

Plus, there's a special feature on Starship Troopers, and Rich & Rob take us through what you should ask for in your Christmas stockings by running down the best games on PC, N64 and PlayStation (sorry Saturn owners).

Three badly dressed blokes get off the halfpipes and join Dom for a few rounds of Top Skater, while Sol Campbell and Christian Daily warm up for France '98 with good, clean fun on Sega Worldwide Soccer '98.

There's news on Mortal Kombat: Annihilation (oops) as well as Alien: Resurrection on the PSX (more oops) and Quake64 (less oops). Plus, as promised last week, there's a big feature on the 64DD along with a brand new title sweeping Japan called Pocket Monsters. That'll never take off over here, though.

It's quite the episode.

Richard and Rob review Screamer Rally (PC) and Lamborghini64 (N64), while Dom gives us news on Jo Guest's new game, a Quake II clan tournament, and... the Dreamcast!

There's a lot to dive into on this bumper episode, including Luke getting angry at a review of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night from 1997. Which, really, is a silly thing to be angry about. But there's brighter notes, like Hellraiser, Dungeon Keeper, Men in Black, The Lost World, Spice World and more!

On a more serious note, there's a bit of chatter about Diana. Because... yeah.

In the first half of our recent marathon 3hr+ live event UCP brings you Ash and Luke choosing their best (or most memorable) challenges from the entire history of GamesMaster, including challenges from their own personal future!

Recorded live in front of a near capacity audience in Croydon on the 14th of January 2023, this rough and ready roll through the years is presented uncensored and unfiltered, so expect salty language, time travel, petty theft, and the ever present threat of an inverted Oedipus complex.

It's-a us, UCP.

As we head towards Paradise Island, Luke and Ash get in their time machine all the way back to 1993 to look at Nintendo's official - and UK only - promotional VHS for the release of Super Mario All-Stars. Hosted by Craig Charles, there's also previews of other SNES titles, hints and cheats, and a special look at the making of Nigel Mansell's World Championship Racing.

You can watch the VHS here.
