Are we aware of our deepest longings? Are we aware that our deepest longings are a longing to be in the presence of the almighty? When we recognize heroism, we need to honor it.  If a person saves you or a loved one's life, you wouldn’t want to stop being grateful.  There has never been an act of human heroism that even approaches what God has done for us. In Leviticus 7:11-21 we uncover that Atonement + Devotion = Fellowship.

Have you ever thought about the time you devote to something?  Zero percent of our lives are un-devoted. What we devote ourselves to shows what we value. We could make the case that we are led by what we devote ourselves to. In Leviticus 1:1-9 we see what makes something worthy of our devotion? Is there anything more worthy of our devotion, that merits our devotion more than our savior, Jesus Christ? Jesus removed the rubble over our lives so we can bring sinners into safety.

What does a non-Christian think when a believer describes themselves as saved? "Why do you think your better than we are?" is often a response you hear. When saved we are better off than the unsaved but never better than the unsaved. Atonement allows us to be with God.  It allows us to be with God blameless. Atonement cancels our debt of sin and removes its power over us.  Leviticus 16:1-10

What do we do to present ourselves? How much effort goes into conducting ourselves in a pleasant manor?
In Leviticus 19:1-2 we see that God's desire is for us to be holy.  He provides the way for us as sinful men to reach holiness.  In order for us to be acceptable by God, we must be holy.

The picture of Sacrifice in the Old Testament is life for life. What do we need the most protection from? We protect from injury, theft, disasters, and disease but what is the most feared thing...Standing in the presence of God without mercy. Exodus 12:1-13 we see that the blood of Christ offers us protection. It is offered, but we must apply it.  We must accept Christ in his totality.  Acceptance of Christ is not partial, we must do it in fullness. The blood of Christ alone protects us from judgement.

Why should anyone obey God? What causes men to defy their own will in favor of what God wants them to do? When is it meritorious to obey God's will? In Genesis 22:1-19, Abraham gives an example of the ultimate test of faith.  We prove our faith by obedience and Abraham obeyed God.  His faith allowed for the flow of God’s blessings for generations to come, all the way until now.

How often do we think about the lives that have gone before us and the heritage that has been left to us by others? There are people yet to be born that will be effected by the way that we live today. In Genesis 8:15-22 Noah is an example of honoring God without him specifically asking for us to honor him.  Noah did so without prompting.  His sacrifice revealed his priorities and showed that he was all in for God because he held nothing back.

There must be something more. Why do men keep searching? Why do we keep looking for something beyond our grasp? All men in all cultures have been reaching for the unreachable, never satisfied. What are we reaching for? One way men have expressed a desire to bridge this gap is through sacrifice. What is accomplished through sacrifice?
