  • You are Perfectly Good at Being Human - Part 1 (episode 305-1)

    She is one RAD woman.

A term from our collective youth, Mel Wilson is the personification of being rad.  Being rad is radical - cool, awesome, great.

Yes, she is all those things and more.  Mel imparted some serious wisdom during our conversation, like: there’s power in owning your thoughts and they are something no one can ever take away from you.  And, our worth is not tied to our results so own your worth.  Those are just the beginning.

I left the conversation feeling full, satisfied and with a deep sense of admiration for all Mel had to say.  She is definitely unapologetic for who she is.  Yes, more of that please for all of us.

Mel is our guest this week in our series What’s with All the Coaches and Why you Might Want One.  This is part one of our conversation.

You can find her at Proof not Perfect or email her at Mel@ Proof not Perfect.

  • What’s the Difference Between Coaching and Therapy? - episode 304

Coaching is all the rage it seems - there are so many, and all kinds.  They want to come alongside to support and empower us.  And we still have dedicated therapists out there who are ready to help us as well.

    But what’s the difference?

When do you want one over the other, or maybe you want both.  Coaching and therapy serve different purposes, and that’s what today’s episode is all about.  It’s like the Venn diagram we learned  about in school.  Different with maybe a bit of overlap in the middle.

Let’s look at both and you can make your own informed decisions.

  • In Honor of Tony Hicks - episode 303

I received heartbreaking news and one of the only things I could think of to do was to ‘rerun’ this episode. You see Tony Hicks was an extraordinary human being and my eyes fill with tears as I write this. His life did not take the trajectory you would think or hope for. As you will hear in our conversation and read in the blog, Tony represents what accountability, forgiveness and restoration look like. And now he has died at age 45. I don’t know any details but they don’t change the fact that he is no longer with us, no longer serving as an advocate for peace. Rest well, Tony. Please.

What Comes After - episode 230; originally released 9/3/24

This is what you can do after.  After the hard thing, when you come back to yourself.  You can figure out who you are, who you want to be, and amongst other things, what your superpower is.  Then go be you and do the things that only you can do - to the fullest.  Because ‘after’ you’re still here and that’s gotta mean something.  And it does to this week’s guest.  Tony Hicks is here, and he has the superpower of listening.  He listens with warmth, is respectful and genuinely wants to connect.  Not only does Tony want to connect, he also wants to help.  In his words he finds it extraordinarily satisfying.

  • Coaching Changed the Way She Sees Things - Part 2 (episode 302-2)

Conversations can lead to better places.

Through them we express ourselves, we learn about others, and we can work out misunderstandings.  Coaches can help with this.  Here’s where we get stuck according to guest Becky Brouwer: we are afraid of doing it ‘wrong’.  But what if you have the freedom to design your own life already?  You just have to believe it.

Becky wants to coach people to see the story they have been telling themselves that keeps them limited.  We each can make a decision, it doesn’t have to be perfect, it doesn’t even have to be good, it simply needs to be a choice, a step forward towards a goal.  And if it doesn’t go ‘right’?  There are many paths up the mountain and you can adjust accordingly.  Each time.  Every time.

Becky is our guest this week in our series What’s with All the Coaches and Why you Might Need One.

This is part two of our conversation.

  • Coaching Changed the Way She Sees Things - Part 1 (episode 302-1)

How do you see things in a new way?

Well, it starts with paying attention to your thoughts because they are what direct your feelings, which lead to how you behave, and the result follows all of that.  You may or may not like how it’s going and so you have the choice, the opportunity to change how you look at things.

Becky Brouwer is our guest this week and she knows first-hand the power in this art (and science, actually).  It has helped her be a ‘sendy’ mom which is someone who has the courage to face fears and to go for things, to say yes to the hard things because she looks at them differently now.  At the top of a mountain about to ski down a hard run, she changed her thought and it made all the difference.

  • What’s with All the Coaches and Why You Might Need One - episode 301

    An intro.

Before we jump into today's episode, I want to ask you a question.

Have you ever wondered why there seem to be coaches everywhere these days? Life coaches, business coaches, health coaches, mindset coaches—what's with all the coaches anyway?

And more importantly, how do you know if hiring a coach is actually right for you?

That's exactly why we created this special series, What's With All the Coaches and Why You Might Need One. In each episode, we’ll talk with coaches from different backgrounds to explore what coaching really is, who it helps, and how to know whether working with a coach could help you move forward in your own life.

Whether you're curious about hiring a coach, thinking about becoming one, or simply wondering what all the buzz is about, this series is for you.

To help you get even more out of these conversations, we’ve created a free companion guide called What's With All the Coaches? A Listener's Guide to Deciding Whether Coaching Is Right for You.

Inside, you'll find reflection questions, red flags to watch for, questions to ask before hiring a coach, and a simple framework to help you determine your next step.

You can get your own free copy at [email protected].  Ask and we will send it to you.

  • Welcome to Saying ‘Yes’ and Sometimes ‘No’ - episode 300

An episode that looks at the benefits of both.

Have you ever had a tough time making a decision?

Like when to say yes and when to say no, and when each of those is in your best interest?

When it will be for the greater good of those around you, and even farther out, depending on what it is that you do, and who you are, the kind of influence you have, the gifts you’ve been given, and how you use them?

We are looking at when to say yes, and when to say no today on Unabashed You.

We are very grateful that you’re here as we celebrate our 300th episode.

  • Just Do It: It Doesn’t Have to be Perfect - Part 2 (episode 299-2)

Growing up she kept her mouth shut and tried to be ‘good enough’.  Sue Krogh started out as a people-pleaser, following society’s advice, she tried to stay in the mold of what was expected but somewhere along the way she started listening to herself instead.  Slowly, through time, awareness and diligence, Sue realized she is of worth, and she has value because she now fully accepts her humanity.  All of it.

Realizing she will never be completely satisfied, she sees that things will never be perfect so why make that the goal.  Something is always left undone and for Sue, that has made all the difference in empowering her to show up in her own life accepting it all.

Sue is our guest this week for Permission to Want More: What’s Next and What’s Left.  This is part one of our conversation.

  • Just Do It: It Doesn’t Have to be Perfect - Part 1 (episode 299-1)

What do you do when you finally realize that it’s never too late, that the desire to create is well-worth all the negative emotions you’ve had along the way.

The desire to move forward needs to become more powerful than the fears. Otherwise how will you know unless you try.

According to Sue Krogh (sounds like ‘crow’) you take the first step.  For her it was filling out an application for a coach-training program, and that was when she gave herself permission, officially.

She was afraid of admitting that she really wants to have a big, expansive influence on the world, teaching others how to mange their brains.  In her words, if it’s important, Just do it.  It doesn’t have to be perfect.

What if ‘messy action’ is the answer to what to do next?

Marianne Iverson thinks it’s a great place to start.  She believes you have to keep feeding what lights you up especially when you arrive at the place of having an empty nest.

Then it’s go time.  Marianne specializes in coming alongside these women because she knows what it’s like to cry in the parking lot after you drop your youngest kid off at college.
