Michael Cearo is Nicole Cearo’s father. You will be tempted to dismiss him, or judge him, but the truth is, his love for and commitment to his daughter is a testament.

Mr. Cearo blames himself for the path his daughter’s life took. At one point, he had to make a decision, what is best for Nicole? His pain cannot be denied. It cannot be ignored.

How can he spend his entire life, and then die, having never known what happened to his daughter? What does it mean, when a man who spent more than 20 years in prison himself, wants the same for those who allegedly killed his first born child?

He says he has been in contact with the detectives working the case. His account of what they told him about existing evidence into Nicole’s death is confounding.

Now, he has a message for the state of Washington, from the Prosecutor’s Office to the Town: take my daughter’s alleged killer to trial.

March 30th, 2009 is the last known day Nicole Cearo was seen alive. What the public knows about what detectives have pieced together in the nearly eight years since, is nil . She was with Mr. Montgomery. She went to see her mom. Maybe they went by a local club in Skyway. From there, no details, and no trace of her. Over the years, SPD has searched for her remains in multiple locations. A few have claimed police “missed the body.”

Allegedly, there is an entire group of people with direct knowledge of what happened to Nicole Cearo, but are convinced that whatever they know, or saw, or heard doesn’t matter, because there is no body. The belief is, no body, no murder, no arrest, no case, no reason to risk my life opening my mouth. Once those people learned police couldn’t find the body, they didn’t talk, stopped talking, or left town allegedly, to avoid talking. It was as if it became scientific fact: fire is hot, ice is cold, the body of Nicole Cearo will never be found.

According to sources familiar with the investigation, police left Seward Park certain Nicole’s body was not there.

Turns out, they might just be right. And everyone else who say police missed the body might be right too.

Points of interest in the case of Nicole Cearo.

The oldest gangs in Seattle are entrenched in its communities. Gangs are generational and familial and some rivalries go back decades.

Within gangs like 74 Hoover, there are sets; gangs within the gang. If ever a Seattle gang could be described as notorious, the Ratt Pacc fits the bill, and the ongoing body count and felony criminal cases from the local to the federal level are proof of that.

Roosevelt Montgomery Jr*. is a member of the Ratt Pacc of south Seattle’s 74 Hoover gang and goes by the name Baby Ratt. He has declined to participate in an interview for this series.

Witnesses and police records exhaustively document Mr. Montgomery’s gang related activity; shootings and assaults, including fellow and rival gang members, women and young girls, including relatives and former girlfriends. He has also been a victim of gang violence, shot himself on at least two separate occasions.

Mr. Montgomery and other members of 74 Hoover are well known to the Major Crimes Unit of the Seattle Police Department, the Gang Unit, Homicide, and street patrol, as well as the FBI’s special division for investigating violent gangs.

By 2010 members of the gang unit were actively searching for D-Ratt**, a member of the 74 Hoover Ratt Pacc. They wanted to talk to him about Nicole. But according to multiple, independent sources, D-Ratt left the state in the summer of 2009, months after Nicole was murdered allegedly, fearful police would eventually come looking for him. 

Since her disappearance in 2009 there have been rumors Nicole Cearo, aka Capricorn, is alive.  There is also the culture of the “unspoken known” of what allegedly happened to her; killed and dumped in Seattle. It is known. But it is not spoken of.

Roosevelt Montgomery Jr. has what law enforcement would describe as a lengthy criminal record and over the years numerous encounters with police, including possession of a stolen vehicle, theft, domestic violence and child abuse. He is at times described in police documents as armed and dangerous. He was 25 when Nicole disappeared, and is now 33, still living in Seattle. To date, he has not been charged with her murder.
