Before we get started, I just want to take a second to thank you all for your support this year.  Season two or (year two) was more than I could have ever imagined. I finally moved out of my parents house where I was recording in their spare bedroom and into Underground Society’s first fully equipped studio. 

This year, I tried my absolute best to improve the quality of the content that we put out for you guys from the Reels to the Youtube Videos and especially our audio only episodes. 

But I can’t take all of the credit for that... On the show today, we have our quite literal “in house” audio engineer. 

(I say it is in house because he is actually my roommate)

To talk not only about his own artist project but also how we became friends, his addition to the team, and the obstacles that we have had to overcome this year with not only the podcast but in our personal lives as well. This week we have hybrid trap artist VRG.

With hundreds of thousands of streams and support from artists like Excision, Shaquille O’Neal and SayMyName you would think it has been easy for someone like VRG but that couldn’t be further from the truth. 

VRG came from a family of immigrants that moved here from Mexico so that they could create a better life for themselves and their family. When they moved here they ended up in a small town that only has 3000 people and for those of you who have never lived in a small town, there are a lot of things that are different. 

Like having to drive 2 hours to catch a flight and not having access to a strong internet connection which of course makes a career in music damn near impossible, and as you’ll hear in our conversation, one of the main contributing factors to why he was stuck at 4 soundcloud followers for the first 4 entire years of his project.

With this crazy statistic, almost every single person in the US has either dealt with Mental Health and Substance Abuse themselves or at least knows someone who has struggled with it.

By looking at this title, I’m sure you’re asking yourself, “what the hell is a paper asshole, and what does it have to do with this episode?” And while I am going to answer that question, I first have to introduce our guest on the show today who explained to me what having a paper asshole meant.

You may have seen his name pop up from time to time as the featured vocalist on some of your favorite artists tracks like Kayzo, Slander, Jauz, Zomboy, the list goes on. He is one of the coolest people I’ve met in the EDM industry, and his name is Micah Martin.

And what he told me having a “paper asshole” meant was that there are people that are going to try and screw you over in the music industry. And it's up to you to learn how to navigate around people who might have ill intentions for you and your career. This guy has seen it all, from selling his vocals early on for $200 a song on a few tracks that later made up to $400k in royalties. To seeing artists being forced into contracts that they never wanted to sign.
