In Matthew 5:6, we see that painful craving leads to powerful contentment.
In this sermon, Dr. Sean Cole asks THREE questions of this passage to help us understand what Jesus meant.
First of all, what exactly is this righteousness He is talking about?
Second, what does it really mean to hunger and thirst for this righteousness?
And third, what does it look like to be satisfied or filled?

Romans 8:31-39 contains some of the clearest teachings on the eternal security of the believer. Paul gives us hope that nothing can separate us from the love of Christ. We are secure in the death, resurrection, ascension, and intercessory work of Jesus on behalf of the elect.

Romans 8:30 teaches the GOLDEN Chain of Redemption
God foreknowing His people in eternity past means that He set His electing love on them in a covenant relationship. It speaks more of the choosing of sinners to be saved. God predestined His people in eternity past, meaning that His preordained plan will certainly and infallibly come to pass according to His sovereign will.
Those God foreknew and predestined, He also CALLED.
When that foreknown, chosen, predestined sinner hears the gospel call given outwardly through the preaching of the gospel, God also does an internal, effectual call that PRODUCES by grace the faith and repentance needed to come to Christ.
Those whom God sovereignly and effectually calls will exercise saving faith and thus be justified.
When did God’s foreknowing occur? In eternity past. When did God’s predestining occur? In eternity past.
When did God’s calling occur? At a point in time when you were born again
When did God’s justifying you occur? When you had faith in Jesus.
When will you be glorified? In the future! It hasn’t happened yet.
From eternity past to eternity future, God has sovereignly ordained and planned out to the most minute detail your salvation.

Meekness is not natural. This goes against everything in our American culture and in human nature to be meek.
The third Beatitude can be summed up in this statement: Those who act as if they are nothing will, in the end, possess everything.
The world doesn’t understand meekness. We as Christians don’t understand meekness. Why would those who act like they are nothing actually in the end possess everything?
In this sermon, Dr. Sean Cole asks two particular questions. First of all, what exactly is meekness? And secondly, what does it truly mean to inherit the earth?

Why is it a blessing to mourn? How will we be comforted? What does it truly mean to mourn?
Here’s a way to think about this Beatitude: Intense mourning results in incredible joy!
Dr. Sean Cole addresses FOUR issues of this Beatitude and delves deeply into the timely issue of weeping and mourning.
First, what the mourning Jesus blesses is NOT.
Second, what actually causes us to weep?
Third, what does it truly mean to mourn?
Fourth, when will we be comforted?
To receive the beauty of salvation, we must first grieve, mourn, and weep over our own personal sin and all its ravaging effects so that we can genuinely experience the liberating forgiveness of Christ.

Romans 8:29-30 teaches us the Golden Chain of Redemption. In this study, Dr. Sean Cole addresses God's foreknowing and predestination.
God foreknowing His people in eternity past means that He set His electing love on them in a covenant relationship. It speaks more of the choosing of sinners to be saved.
God predestined His people in eternity past, meaning that His preordained plan will certainly and infallibly come to pass according to His sovereign will.
He also discusses the doctrine of unconditional election in the following verses:
John 6, Acts 13:48, Ephesians 1, and 2 Thessalonians 2.
He also encourages us to be compassionate in our interactions with those who differ from us on our views of election and predestination.

Dr. Sean Cole resumes preaching through the Gospel of Matthew. He explains how to interpret the Beatitudes. He interacts with the first Beatitude by asking three questions:
First of all, what does it mean to be “blessed”? Second, what does it mean to be “poor in spirit”? And third, what does possessing the kingdom of God truly mean?

Dr. Sean Cole teaches two truths from this passage in Romans:
The Spirit helps us when we struggle with prayer (vs. 26-27), and God is absolutely sovereign over all things. (vs. 28)
He also discusses THREE fences or truths that QUALIFY God’s decree, so we hold to what the Bible says and avoid faulty thinking.
Fence One: God is NOT the author or direct cause of sin.
Fence Two: God’s absolute decree does not violate man’s free will, as he is still responsible and acts according to his nature.
Fence Three: God uses secondary causes to accomplish His decree.

Dr. Sean Cole concludes his sermon series on the theology of beloved Christmas hymns, focusing on "What Child is This?"
Nails, spear shall pierce Him through,
The cross be borne for me, for you;
Hail, hail the Word made flesh,
The Babe, the Son of Mary.
This imagery of Jesus being pierced with nails and a spear comes from the Gospel of John.
Celebrate King Jesus for His finished work on the cross!
The carol calls us to “Hail the Word made flesh!” We don’t often use the word “hail,” but it means to celebrate, praise, or honor.
One thing we can’t overlook is that Jesus is the King. This is the crucifixion of the King of kings and Lord of lords. And yet, how does Jesus, as King, die?
This sermon explores THREE aspects of the Crucifixion of the King and why we should celebrate!
