In this episode we take a look at the doctrine of the sufficiency of scripture. The question we are tackling... Is scripture enough for you? Many christians claim that it is, but when pressed, would be forced to admit they turn to a number of other sources for spiritual guidance. Tradition, reason, philosophy, experience, feelings, popular preachers/teachers. As useful as those may be, they must all be tested and measured against the infallible, inerrant, God-breathed scripture. The Westminster confession of faith puts it this way:

“The whole counsel of God, concerning all things necessary for his own glory, man’s salvation, faith, and life, is either expressly set down in scripture, or by good and necessary consequence may be deduced from scripture: unto which nothing at any time is to be added, whether by new revelations of the Spirit, or traditions of men.”

Tongues, interpretation, prophecy, and healing... Miraculous signs and wonders mentioned throughout scripture, and particularly in the new testament. Are they for today? Did they cease with the apostles, when the canon was complete, or some other time for some other reason? What do the scriptures teach us? Is there a definitive answer? In this episode we explore a few of the most popular positions, and weigh their arguments against scripture.

Order! Order, I say! There aren't many topics in the bible more polarizing than that of "spiritual gifts". What are they? Who has them? How does one get them? Are they even available for today, or did they end in the first century?!(we'll dive into that particular debate on the next episode) But for now, we're going to focus on what the bible has to teach us about their purpose and proper use in the gathering of the called out ones.

From Pentecostal to Presbyterian, This topic never fails to insight lively debates amongst christians from all tribes and tongues.(see what i did there?) "Does it happen to all christians at salvation or is it a subsequent experience? Come to think of it... What even is it??"

This discussion may spark questions, curiosity, or even concerns...But ultimately, our aim is to drive you to the scriptures. Let's get uncomfortable!

Christians all over the world are "recovering" from a week of intense focus on the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. Pastors have saved all their best material for this sermon. Christians have avoided evangelism all year long, knowing they might convince their unsaved friends to show up this one day and the preacher would pick up their slack from the pulpit. But what if everyday is resurrection Sunday? And what if the sunday morning gathering of the "called out ones" is actually a time for Christians to gather and glorify God in Christ together? And what if evangelism is every believer's calling and responsibility outside the walls of the gathering? Do you have the ability to articulate the gospel when the opportunity comes? On this episode Dillon and Ben discuss how the Word transforms your understanding of the Gospel by removing the focus from "us" and placing it on God.

If you truly study the scriptures you will inevitably come to texts that force you to ask tough questions, and those questions often have tough answers. Many are content to remain blissfully unaware of the magnitude of God's holiness and the terror of his wrath. But if we ignore or avoid these fundamental truths of His glorious nature, how can we ever understand the depth of His love and mercy?

Why do so many modern worship songs focus so much on "us" and so little on God? Has our worship become centered around our desires and our circumstances instead of God's glory and Holiness? This week we take a look at the Lord's prayer, and discuss how it lays a foundation and guide for how to approach God, and how that must affect our worship.

The Bible. God's word. We can say we believe it. We can say we trust it. We can say it's infallible. But what if we don't really know how to read it correctly? Is there a wrong way? Uhhh... yeah. There is. On this episode, we'll talk about hermeneutics, exegesis, and other long words that ultimately aim the believer in the direction of truly understanding the bible.

You better watch out. You better not cry. You better pout. I'm telling you why... YOU'RE A PAGAN!!! At least according to social media. Who knew there were so many historians among us? Since it doesn't seem to require any level of expertise to speak into this issue, Dillon and Ben felt perfectly equipped to contribute to the ongoing debate over Christmas traditions and whether or not they are inextricably tied to pagan practices. And if so, what's the proper response? We may not have all the answers, but we certainly had fun arguing and ranting about it. Merry Christmas!
