This week, I connected again with my friend Keeshon Washington to tackle the subject of racism. Well, we didn't really tackle it... there's so much to this conversation that we couldn't get to in just a couple of hours. But we addressed why we need to have conversations about racism, why we should talk with friends of color about their experiences, what racism even means, and how parents who adopt children of color should parent their kids.

Have you ever journeyed from one church tradition to another?
In this episode I have a conversation with my friend "Francis" about his journey from conservative Anabaptism to the charismatic movement back to some of his Anabaptist roots.

In this episode, I respond to three questions my patrons have submitted: (1) What is keeping you engaged in the conservative Menno vision/mission? (2) What is a Menno to do when there are no healthy Menno churches to attend? (3) Do all people who attend a church need to hold to the same doctrinal beliefs (outside credal beliefs)?

I saw a couple of articles this past week that got me thinking. One talked about a church nativity set that depicted Joseph, Mary and Jesus each in their own cages. It represented the birth of Christ in the context of what's happening at our border today. Is it wrong to do this with a nativity scene?
The second article discussed the flaws of the modern worship movement. It suggested that modern worship is too emotional, that it needs more depth of theology in its lyrics. Is that right? Should worship be more doctrinally sound and less emotional?
We discuss all this and more in episode #007 on Unfeigned Christianity.

The schedule has been extremely full the last couple of months, and I haven't produced as much content as I had hoped. But I'm excited to share with you today a conversation I had back in October with my friend Keeshon Washington!
In this episode we discuss race, Anabaptist churches, inner-city missions, and whether or not one should change their lifestyle in order to better connect with other cultures. I love Keeshon's commitment to Christ and his desire to point people to him no matter what he's doing... or what he's talking about. It's a longer episode, but you'll love it!

In this episode I had the honor of sitting down and chatting with my new friend, Ken Brubacher. He tells his story of discovering as a boy that he was sexually attracted to men, trying to fill a longing for love through sex, and then discovering Jesus for the first time in a casual conversation with a coworker.
This isn't some "out-there" secular world story. It happened smack in the middle of a conservative Mennonite church. There are many who have similar stories--how can we develop communities where they feel safe enough to share their stories? We discuss all this and more!

After rambling awhile about life and what's been keeping us busy and sleepless, I introduce today, and share with you, the first episode of another podcast I've been privileged to be a part of this fall: The Third Way Podcast. We explore the political implications of a Jesus-centered theology. My brother, Christopher Witmer, started the podcast with a few friends. It's been fun!
There are six episodes already released on The Third Way. You can check it out further at www.thethirdwaypodcast.com.
Music on the podcast is done by The Brilliance, using their song "Brother."
Also, I spoke of the course that I have open at the moment, which you can find at www.asherwitmer.com/the-making-sense-of-life-journey/.

Today, I interviewed my friend and mentor, Merle Burkholder, and men taking personal responsibility for their sexuality and how that can positively affect the cultural environment of the church.
