United City Church - Sundays

Have you been trying harder to change, but still feel stuck? In Colossians 2:16–23, we discover why doing more, feeling more, and giving up more will never truly change us. Real transformation doesn’t come from rules, religious experiences, or self-discipline alone. It comes from Jesus.

Using the picture of a diamond, this message reminds us that we can’t change ourselves from the inside out by trying harder. Only Jesus can bring lasting transformation.

What does it mean to be fully alive in Christ?

In Colossians 2:6–15, we see that Jesus is fully God and fully sufficient. We don't need supplements or substitutes because everything we need is found in Him.

Because of who Jesus is, we can be fully alive, fully forgiven, and fully free.

Discover the sufficiency of Jesus and what it means to walk confidently in the freedom He has given us.

What does it look like to truly live on mission for Jesus?

In Colossians 1:24–2:5, Paul gives us a picture of what it means to live fully committed to Christ. Our mission is clear: Everyone, every day, crossing every divide to live united in Christ.

In this message, we explore what it means to:

* Live for Jesus every day
* Cross the divides that separate us
* Pursue people with the gospel
* Grow toward maturity in Christ
* Keep our focus on Jesus without adding to or replacing Him

What if nothing is missing with Jesus?

In Colossians 1:15–23, Paul gives us a bigger picture of who Jesus is. He is the image of the invisible God, the creator of all things, the head of the church, and the One who holds everything together.

In this message from the Behold series, we turn the “diamond” of Jesus and see four powerful truths:

• See the God revealed to you — Jesus makes the invisible God known.
• See the hand holding you — Jesus is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.
• See the peace made for you — Through the blood of His cross, Jesus reconciles us to God.
• See the hope given to you — We are called to remain stable and steadfast in the hope of the gospel.

You don’t need to add something to Jesus to make your faith stronger. You need to see Jesus for who He is and put your weight back on the gospel.

Nothing is missing with Jesus.

What if the answer isn’t finding something more—but seeing Jesus more clearly?

In this powerful message from Colossians 1:1–14, we begin the Behold series by looking at the supremacy and sufficiency of Jesus Christ. Paul writes to a church being tempted to believe that Jesus is only the beginning—that they need something more to truly grow. His answer is simple: you don’t grow past Jesus. You grow into Him.

In this sermon, we’ll discover three truths about the gospel:

• You never outgrow the gospel. The good news of Jesus isn’t something we graduate from. It remains the most important truth in the Christian life.

• You never stop growing in the gospel. God calls us to grow in the knowledge of His will, bear fruit in good works, and walk in a manner worthy of the Lord.

• You never stop needing the gospel. God has already qualified, rescued, transferred, and redeemed us through Christ.

Colossians 1:13–14 reminds us that God has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us into the kingdom of His beloved Son, where we have redemption and the forgiveness of sins.

The question is not, “What else do I need to add to Jesus?”

The question is, “Have I really seen Jesus for who He is?”

If you’ve been looking for something more to satisfy you spiritually, this message is a reminder to stop shopping and behold Christ again. Jesus is not merely part of the Christian life—Jesus is the point.

What do you do with the person at your table that you didn't choose and can't get away from?

Maybe it's a family member. An ex. A coworker. Someone who has hurt you, frustrated you, or made your life more difficult. You can't simply remove the chair, so how do you honor God while the relationship remains hard?

In 1 Samuel 24, David finds himself face-to-face with Saul, the very man who has been hunting him and trying to kill him. David has the perfect opportunity to take revenge, but instead he chooses a different path.

The bottom line of this message is simple:

Leaders honor God even when relationships become difficult.

In this message, we look at four ways David honored God in one of the most difficult relationships of his life:

• Follow your conviction, not the crowd.
• Honor God, not the person.
• Speak it, don't spread it.
• Let God have the last word, not you.

David shows us that honoring God doesn't mean pretending someone is safe when they aren't, ignoring wrongdoing, or refusing to speak the truth. It means refusing to take revenge into your own hands and trusting God with the outcome.

Sometimes you don't get the apology.
Sometimes the relationship doesn't get fixed.
Sometimes the other person doesn't change.

But you can still walk away with a clean conscience and a God who is keeping His promises.

Are you a lone ranger?

Most of us would answer that question proudly: “Yeah. I handle my own stuff.”

But what happens when the call comes? The diagnosis. The emergency room. The heartbreak. The moment when everything falls apart. Who do you call next?

In 1 Samuel 18, 20, and 23, we see one of the most powerful pictures of friendship in the Bible through the relationship between David and Jonathan.

David was becoming king, but he didn't become a great leader alone. Jonathan stood beside him, fought for him, protected him, and ultimately pointed him back to God.

The bottom line of this message is simple:

Leaders need a friend who will fight for them.

In this message, we look at four characteristics of a true friend:

• A friend who fights for you trades his future for yours.
• A friend who fights for you goes looking for an answer he doesn't want.
• A friend who fights for you steps in front of the spear.
• A friend who fights for you comes back when you're empty.

Jonathan shows us that real friendship isn't just about being there when things are easy. It's about loyalty when it costs you something, courage when someone else is taking the fire, and pointing your friend back to God when there is nothing else you can do.

The best thing a friend can ever do for you is not carry you. It is put you back in the hands of the One who can.
