  • Getting Real With Ourselves | Why The Truth Must Always Hurt
In today’s episode, we explain why the truth must hurt and how we can use that to help us. We discuss how vulnerability, fear, and stress are always a part of living authentically, and how we can use these things to help push us forward. We offer a real life analogy for why the truth hurts. We talk about how to deal with confronting the truth and how to do it within your strengths.

-Intro: 3 Things to Be Aware of if You Want to Live Authentically 1:15
-Why the Truth Must Hurt 9:05
-Find the Truth and Improve Using Your Strengths 16:46

“The opposite of truth is a lie, my friends. What happens is that many of us in our lives, in our health, in our relationships, in our belief in ourself, in our bank account, we have been lying for so long, that when the time came where we had to rely and lean on that lie in order to move along life, it wasn’t there. And so we ended up hurting, not just physically, but emotionally, and we were embarrassed publicly.” 13:08

  • How to Fight Fears and Take Control | Using Your Strengths To Cope With Trauma
Today we hear Eddie’s wife, Angela, talk about the concept of taking control, in spite of the stresses and the pressures of life. She talks about what she’s been learning from listening to “Take Control of Your Life” by Mel Robbins. We talk about the science of fear and stress, picking up on its signs and causes, and finding healthy, long-lasting ways to cope. We talk about the dangers of “fake control”, and define trauma as anything that leaves a lasting impression of fear. We explain how Angela took control in her life in the context of her top strengths, such as “Arranger” and “Maximizer.” We then extend the special offer of a free 30 min strengths coaching session with Eddie to those who take the Clifton strengths assessment (go to gallup.com/access) on the day this episode is released. Send the assessment to [email protected].

  • Show Up As You
Today we continue breaking down strengths reports of people who belong to Eddie’s private community. We then talk specifics about their top 10 strengths, turn it into a lesson, and give you a call to action. We invite the listener to send feedback about breaking down these strengths reports via email to [email protected], as this will be the last time we do it on the show unless you tell us you want more. We also remind you of the importance of developing your strengths (top 10) and not your weakness (bottom 5). Today’s strengths report is of a woman who has 5 influencing strengths and 3 strategic thinking strengths in her top 10. Because of her desire to help move others forward, this person is not afraid of facing conflict, so Harmony is among her bottom strengths. We discuss the combination of her strengths in greater depth, and then invite the listener to show up as they are and take credit for every time something good happens.

That, my friends, is HOW WE ROLL when we do our strengths statement. When we do our strengths story. That’s how we roll: we do everything in a way that’s truly authentic to who we are.” 23:47

  • Be Like Water
Today we continue breaking down strengths reports of people who belong to Eddie’s private community. We then talk specifics about their top 10 strengths, turn it into a lesson, and give you a call to action. Today’s example is a man who has Discipline, Analytical, and Input in his top 10 strengths, with Woo, Competition, and Adaptability in his bottom strengths. We talk about how this means that he achieves emotional and physical balance by making his plans for the future, and enjoys contributing and getting things done without having it be about him. We use his strengths as an example for us -- that just as water can change the shape of the earth by consistently flowing, we too can make a difference by being constant.

“Think about the things that you want to get done, the big impact that you want to make on the world, my brother. Think about that. And understand that you’re not going to make the big impact on the world by bursting in the door and going, “I’m Heeere!” No. You’re gonna make a big difference in the world by opening the door every day, and showing up every day.” 14:29

For this episode and the two following, we will be breaking down for you real strengths reports of people in Eddie’s private group. Today’s strength report is of a woman who has 8 relationship-building strengths in her top 10. We discuss in great detail how this combination of strengths makes this person work. Some of these strengths include Harmony, Developer, Relator, and Futuristic. We then talk some about her bottom strengths and how these can create problems if unduly used. Eddie then gives recommendations for how this person can use her strengths to move ahead and achieve even more.

  • Your Fear Is Right
In today’s episode, Eddie shares an experience that taught him that everything that happens, happens for us, not to us. He also learned that our fear can be right, and so we shouldn’t hide from it or pretend it doesn’t exist. It can show us what matters most to us, and instead of thinking it’s telling us that we can’t do something, it’s actually telling us that we can do. We then invite you to learn your strengths so you can be who you are and benefit the world.

  • We Suck At This
Today we share some experiences and lessons that have shaped Eddie’s desire to help others with his words. One of the most important of these lessons is that if you can get yourself to take a single step forward, you’re fully qualified to help move others forward. We share that we all suck at knowing what we are truly capable of. We share an exercise to help you understand this concept. We encourage you to take a look at the ways you sedate yourself to escape your fear, and determine to replace those things with activities that will help you to move yourself forward. We share with you a technique for setting and achieving goals and increasing your capacity using your strengths.

“And so if you can help yourself take a single step, you can now help millions do the exact same thing. That was what I learned. That’s the heart of influencing.” 8:50

  • How To Get People To Listen To You
In today’s episode, we discuss getting others to listen to what we have to say in a way that is truly authentic to who we are and is valuable to the listener. We emphasize the truth that you are infinitely unique, so that if you have an opinion to share, you are the only one who can do it. We break the concept of showing others the value of what you have to say into 3 parts : First, see the value in listening to yourself. The best way to do this is to really understand your strengths. Second, see the value in listening to them. Third, they will inevitably want to listen to what you have to say because you have demonstrated the value that both you and they have.

-Intro: How to Handle Feedback 0:54
-Getting People to Listen -- 3 Steps 3:45
-The Best Way To Teach Others 21:21

“This concept of trying to live my life authentically means being true and telling the truth based on the way I see it because only I can see it that way. And it’s not because my opinions are the only ones that matter, but my opinions can only be created by me. Which means that if I’ve got something to say, then it’s going to be of value to you because no one else can say it.” 5:42

  • Turn Your Fear Into a Skill
Today, we explore the concept of turning fears into skills using the talents and strengths that have been given to you. We start by emphasizing the importance of living authentically so that you can bring value to others in a way that makes you happy. We invite you to consider scheduling or attending a workshop. Public workshops are in the process of being scheduled and more information will soon be available on a new website. We talk about the importance of recognizing that any success can be achieved authentically. We invite you to get clear about what you want and what you are worried about; put those two things together, and then ask “How?” You then are able to start using your strengths and talents to start developing that skill.

-Staying Busy (But Happy) By Living Fully Authentically 1:08
-Avoid Comparison; Turn Fear Into a Skill 7:32
-Apply Your Strengths to Learn New Skills 19:40

“Everything is about taking all these things that you’re afraid of, turning them into a skill, and ultimately doing everything in a way that is fully authentic to you, in a way that nobody else on this planet can do, because you are infinitely unique and cannot be duplicated! That means that what you’re going to do to solve this problem is different than the way anybody else has ever done it because it’s YOU. It’s coming from YOU. And it’s time for you to start listening to your inside voice.” 21:11

  • Your Mentor Didn't Mean It That Way
In today’s episode, Eddie shares a personal experience when he had an employee quit because of something he said. He shares this experience to illustrate a lot of principles that can help anyone who is in a position of influence and is worried about people misinterpreting their words. In this experience, Eddie was surprised that in his efforts to offer words of encouragement to his employee, he actually drove him to quit. He points out that before his employee left, he should have asked him what it was that he thought that he had said. He then teaches the most important principle: that if you’re taking anything anyone says to you as disempowering, it’s not true. Eddie then invites you to choose 4 of your Clifton strengths, describe each one in 3 to 5 words, and put those descriptions together to motivate you to solve your problems today.

    -Intro 0:54
-Eddie’s Experience; What He Would Have Done Differently 5:00
-If It Disempowers You, It’s Not True 15:09
-Eddie’s Challenge With Your Clifton Strengths 19:59

“So what I want you to do is think about this: when you’re listening to mentors, or friends, or anybody -- whether they’re an expert or not -- if what they said puts power into you, then believe it. Okay? If it puts you and keeps you in your business, then believe it. If you have a thought, or a feeling, or someone shares a story, or ANYTHING, that lets you believe that your strengths and talents are not perfect; if any thought that pops into your head that makes you think that you can’t do this, what you’re choosing to believe is a lie. And it’s time to put the power back into you.” 18:32
