Title: while they sleep (under the bed is another country)

Author: Raquel Salas Rivera

Narrator: Raquel Salas Rivera

Format: Unabridged Audiobook

Length: 0 hours 32 minutes

Release date: August 1, 2019

Genres: Poetry

Publisher's Summary:

while they sleep (under the bed is another country) refuses to sweep up the shards of Hurricane María's aftermath. Written in dialogic fragments and intersped with prose poems reflecting on the lasting impact of colonial trauma, it is arranged around the two different discourses. The bed on which America sleeps, and which America has made, is built on the fear that the nations it has oppressed will rise up against it, a monstrous shadow in a child's nightmare. Written in English, while they sleep points to a imperialist American identity: the dormant body of the text. Answering in Spanish, under the bed is another country is the footnote, the monster under the bed, the colony: Puerto Rico.

Mind Platter is a compilation of reflections on life as seen through the eyes of an educator, student, and human who experienced her early days in silence. It is written in the words of a woman who came from Lebanon to Canada at the age of 16 and experienced what it was like to have fate push her to a place where she didn't belong. It is written in the voice of every person who has felt unheard, mistreated, misjudged, or unseen. The audiobook contains over 200 reflections on topics we encounter in our everyday lives: love, friendship, hurt, inspiration, respect, motivation, integrity, honesty, and more.  Mind Platter is not about the words it contains, but what the listener makes of them. May this book give a voice to those who need one, be a crying shoulder for those who yearn for someone to listen, and inspire those who need a reminder of the power they have over their lives.

Title: Homespun Mercies

Author: Dj Hill

Narrator: Dj Hill

Format: Unabridged Audiobook

Length: 0 hours 44 minutes

Release date: June 26, 2019

Genres: Poetry

Publisher's Summary:

My aunt once told me she dreamed her house/Had a secret room, one which held everything/She loved most, poet DJ Hill writes. This debut collection throws open a door to the 'secret room' all of us keep inside ourselves. Hill examines 'what life requires' of us, along with the ways real lives work, in an arresting juxtaposition of music and poetry. The result is honest, joyful, and direct, but make no mistake: Hill also has an edge. Like the poem 'Slip' where a woman plans her life exhaustively only to drive to work and realize she's forgotten to put on her dress, these poems are revealing, humorous, and wise about the complexities and contradictions of human hearts. - Katrina Vandenberg, author of The Alphabet Not Unlike the World and Atlas.
