Kimberly advises Alex to recognize she is bringing strengths needed in the workplace today. For example, time management skills and confidence in her ability to deliver.

Sonia reminds Alex that she is experienced in adapting to different circumstances, use those skills to understand the new culture.

“According to research from executive recruiters, the average tenure of a C-suite executive is brief 5.3 years. What do you advise a leader who is failing because the responsibilities or expectations of their role were poorly designed?”

Sonia suggests clarity between what the C level leader will be accountable for and the reporting relationships of the groups that will affect the results.

Kimberly provides examples where the C suite’s mission may be focused on short term goals. 

Jonathan recounts that the failures in the C suite he has seen, often are due to disconnect between the goal of the role and the goal of the team. Empowering the C leader to build their own team to deliver on the goal is important.
