Here is part 5 of my series on the Ten Commandments entitled “Unmasked.”
I cover the fourth commandment in this sermon: “Remember the sabbath and keep it holy.” Like all the other commandments, this one exposes us—it unmasks the workaholic in all of us.
However much we may complain about how overbooked our schedules are, exhaustion has become a symbol of righteousness. Because our identity is wrongly attached to our productivity, we wear busyness as a badge of honor. So much so that there is a level of shame attached to rest—to take a break is unrighteous.
