  • Ep012: Ava Diamond and Kavvy Sonhos - The Revolution of Healing
Ava Diamond and Kavvy Sonhos chat with Dr. Cali Estes today. Ava is an addiction specialist, a success coach, a nutritional psychology coach, pro athlete, author and a speaker. She has many years of pursuing higher levels of competition in her sport, she turned pro at 47 and now at 53 she models for her clients how to live with radiance and power of authenticity in all life’s arenas. Ava has worked with the US Military and taught at the Yale University School of medicine. She works with CEO’s and college and professional athletes.

Ava has teamed up with Kavvy Sonhos the founder of the Revolution of Healing. Kavvy is a highly successful fitness and fashion model. She is an IFBB Pro Figure competitor and is an advocate for a healthy life. Kavvy is a recovering anorexic and has paved the way to success by sharing her struggles with this eating disorder.

Kavvy explains The Revolution of Healing which is a community that talks about nutrition psychology and mental fitness. Ava and Kavvy believe mental fitness is a combination of using fitness as an emotional outlet and tapping into your core power as a two-tiered approach to mind and body.

They highlight a critical difference of the Revolution of Healing: attacking the Problem instead of attacking the Solution. Kavvy says “Let’s just deal with the real thing” while pointing out her belief that all human beings have some sort of eating disorder and that these disorders are the result of not dealing with emotional obstacles.

The Revolution of Healing is about what works for you. Ava shares that their programme will educate people on how to use their nutrition to complement or ward off medication.

Ava and Kavvy share the source of Personal Power and dissect today’s common advice to expose the flaws they hold. Kavvy emphasizes being aware of what you are actually eating and learning about the effects of food on yourself.

Ava points out that we can’t create a lasting lifestyle change without feeling the benefits first and have a healthy attachment to the purpose of the lifestyle change. The journey to this is a challenging one. Ava highlights that The Revolution of Healing does not take away- it adds, so you are not left with anything absent.

Kavvy shares that you are free and describes the program as “it’s not a diet, it’s changing your life and being honest with yourself.”

Their website is http://www.therevolutionofhealing.com and if you subscribe to the show, you will get a downloadable worksheet and join the community for free!

The Revolution of Healing focuses on what "Core Power" really is and how to harness it to reach your greatest potential.

  • Ep011: Todd "Z-Man" Zalkins of Sublime - I Was Fully Owned by This Drug...
"...And I hated myself for a long time."

Wow, listen to this powerful episode and hear Todd explain why, "My getting sober was the most tumultuous, the gnarliest, rockiest, most difficult, most painful thing that I've ever walked through in my life."

He goes on to explain, "Which is why today I have a very healthy outlook on the dangers of my drug abuse."

Todd is more than an interventionist, public speaker, and author, he’s a storyteller and motivator who inspires others as a thought-leader on recovery, to not only realize their potential but live it.

His gripping memoir, “Dying for Triplicate” which details his harrowing 17-year addiction to prescription painkillers, through detox and into his first 18 months of recovery, has helped thousands of other addicts find their way into treatment.

Todd is also the co-founder of The Nowell Family Foundation, a non-profit he created along with Jim “Papa” Nowell. Set to open late in 2018 in San Juan Capistrano, will bear the name “Bradley’s House,” and will be dedicated specifically to treating male musicians with opiate addiction-a first of its kind.

Todd is FOUNDER and CEO of the Four Keys, INC a vertical enterprise that encompasses ALL in RECOVERY; interventions, treatment, education and post-treatment care. Current curriculum includes workshops centered in helping addicts and alcoholics develop new tools for integrating back into life, clean and sober. These two-day sessions are dedicated to inspiring and motivating individuals to further their recovery.

The Long Way Back: The Story of Todd ‘Z-Man’ Zalkins is an award-winning documentary film about Todd which has recently come out in select theaters and worldwide on Amazon, iTunes and DVD.

After losing his friend Bradley Nowell to a heroin overdose, Todd Zalkins aka "Z-MAN" fights for his life in what will become the worst drug crisis in American History, the Opioid Epidemic. Against all odds, Todd is able to break a seventeen-year addiction to prescription painkillers and dedicates his life to helping others who struggle with addiction.

In a twist of fate, Todd is presented with an opportunity to help Bradley Nowell's son, Jakob battle his own addiction with drugs and alcohol. A story of redemption, and recovery, The Long Way Back shatters the stigma associated with prescription painkiller addiction and offers a strong message of hope and awareness.

Todd lives in Long Beach, California, swims and surfs regularly, prays daily, is extremely active in his recovery, still rocks out with his punk rock band and loves his clean and sober life.

  • Ep010: How Mark Astor of Drug and Alcohol Attorneys Uses Legal Strategies to Save Lives
Mark Astor and his firm, Drug and Alcohol Attorneys, is dedicated to helping people whose lives have been affected by the effects of drugs and alcohol. We realize that when you come to us, it’s not because you have a legal problem, it’s because you have a personal problem. This problem is what’s affecting your ability to hold down a job. It’s why you can’t sleep at night. It’s why your relationships with your loved ones are in turmoil.

Utilizing legal strategies, Mark and his team save lives of those affected by drugs and alcohol. One way they do this is by utilizing the best-kept secret in the battle against the opioid epidemic, Florida's Marchman Act, a critical piece of life-saving legislation that has been on the books since 1993. The Marchman Act permits the involuntary commitment of an individual suffering from a drug or alcohol substance abuse disorder.

The power of this Act and more can help you or your loved one even if you do not reside in Florida.

Please reach out to Mark, let him help you to fix your life or the life of a loved one.

  • Ep009: Tim Ryan - Recovering Heroin Addict, A&E's "Dope Man," and National Thought Leader on Opioid Epidemic
A tireless advocate for long-term recovery, Tim Ryan is no stranger to addiction. Despite a successful business career, Tim found himself in the grips of heroin and, ultimately, was sentenced to seven years in prison for drug-related convictions. Tim got clean and sober behind bars.

Six months after his release, tragedy struck. His son, Nick – for whom Tim had paved the way to use deadly drugs – died tragically from an overdose. Reaching beyond the devastation and heartbreak, Tim used Nick’s death as the inspiration to spread hope, believing that if even one addict or family could be spared the horrors of addiction, he would make a difference.

As a result, he founded A Man in Recovery Foundation, a nonprofit that helps anyone find treatment and recovery.

Today, Tim is the subject of the new A&E documentary, Dope Man, reaching millions. He has been a featured thought leader in numerous national media, including USA Today, Newsweek, Chicago Tribune, and “The Steve Harvey Show with Dr. Drew,” and dozens of nationally syndicated radio shows. He was an invited guest to the 2016 State of the Union Address. He is the author of the bestselling book, From Dope to Hope and the National Outreach Director for Transformations Drug and Alcohol Treatment Center.

Tim’s message is inspiring because he has walked the journey of addiction and recovery. He spreads hope and tools to those who need them most.

"If you're going to do heroin you have two choices, you will get sober or you're going to die. You might pass through jail in the interim, but those are your only two choices. End of discussion." - Tim Ryan

  • Ep005: Katrina King of Recovered Purpose and Chasing the Dragon
In 2011, while Katrina was incarcerated pending sentencing for prescription fraud, possession, distribution and other charges related to her addiction, Katrina's 20-year-old daughter began heavily abiding prescription pills. Within months, her beautiful and naive little girl was completely addicted and out of control. Katrina felt panicked and powerless as she was told that the child who was always terrified of needles, was now injecting herself with death regularly. Only a few days after she was advised of Kirstyn's deteriorating condition, her child overdosed while her mother was trapped in jail, paralyzed by inexplicable grief, regret, and crippling hopelessness.

Katrina shares how she seemed to overcome the death of her parents as a child in the California desert of the 70's, child abuse, institutions and sexual assaults, to evolving to a responsible, loving, career parent earning a six-figure salary. Sadly, she had only buried the pain and shame of repeated abuse, as all it took was a few life incidents and a fall down the stairs of her home, to set off heartbreaking consequences and senseless tragedy.

Her powerful story was profiled in the FBI's, "Chasing the Dragon" documentary. Released last year with a study guide, it will be used in schools and communities for years to come to help educate the public on the dangers of substance abuse, as well as the underlying factors that often lead to the full manifestation of the disorder.

Today, Katrina advocates for all suffering from substance abuse, their families and trauma survivors. The founder for "Recovered Purpose", she has dedicated her life to serving others. She admits her dreams were lost to addiction and the death of her daughter but, her PURPOSE was found in recovery. She is driven to honor her daughter and leave a legacy of love to her son and his family. Katrina is proud of her son who serves our country enthusiastically in a branch of the military.

  • Ep003: Rabbi Mark Borovitz - How to Find a Way of Living That Matches Your Soul
Ep003: Rabbi Mark Borovitz - How to Find a Way of Living That Matches Your Soul

Unfortunately, those who have created the "addiction epidemic" are now trying to cash in on the recovery movement. More drugs, like suboxone, are not the "cure" for addiction. Recovery is about finding your essence, your true self.

The killer of the human spirit? When we make addiction a brain disease and remove all responsibility from recovery. The five toughest words for people to put together into a sentence? "Oops, I made a mistake." Blame and shame go away when I'm responsible.

When you are trying to pigeonhole something like the opioid crisis, you're missing the real problem, which is addiction.

Rabbi Marks solution? Listen in and find out.

Officially ordained in 2000 at the University of Judaism with a Master’s in Rabbinic Literature, Rabbi Mark Borovitz combined his knowledge of Torah and street smarts to shape his calling: helping recovering addicts find their way in the world. Spiritual Leader, Author, Senior Rabbi, CEO, ex-con, recovering alcoholic, and overall anomaly, he is able to reach both the addict and the congregant, and de-stigmatize this life-threatening disease.

As the CEO and Senior Rabbi of Beit T’Shuvah, a nonprofit, non-sectarian, Jewish addiction treatment center and synagogue community in Los Angeles, Rabbi Mark’s leadership is unparalleled.
