  • America: Reflections on Iraq

In this episode, the Colonels step out of their comfort zone, of sorts, and talk about their deployment into Iraq in 2006 - 2007. We go through some of our thoughts about notification, pre-deployment, our time in-country, re-deployment, then back home. Some humorous, some not-so humorous, and some, well... just reflections. We even talk about our take-aways and the lessons we learned about each of ourselves as well as life in general.

  • 31 Days of Halloween...Day 4, Origins: Kekri

Kekri was one of the biggest Pagan holidays celebrated in ancient Finland. Kekri was not a communal holiday - it was a Family holiday. In other words, the window for celebrating Kekri was generally the first two weeks in November. There were no grand gatherings. Finnish Pagans celebrated within the Family sometime within those two weeks. It was customary for the Family to first complete their harvest work, then celebrate Kekri.

  • 31 Days of Halloween...Day 3, Origins: The Hungry Ghost Festival

The Hungry Ghost Festival, also known as the Zhongyuan Festival in Taoism or the Yulanpen Festival in Buddhism, is a traditional festival held in certain East and Southeast Asian countries. According to the Chinese Lunar Calendar, the Hungry Ghost Festival is generally on the 15th night of the seventh month. In 2023, the festival fell on August 30th; in 2024, the festival will fall on August 18th. In Chinese culture, the fifteenth day of the seventh month on the Lunar Calendar is "Ghost Day," and the seventh month is generally regarded as the "Ghost Month." During "Ghost Month," ghosts and spirits, including those of deceased ancestors, come up from the lower realm. • 31 Days of Halloween...Day 2, Origins: Dziady

"Dziady" is a term used in Slavic folklore to identify ancestral spirits and a collection of pre-Christian rites, rituals, and customs dedicated to them. The purpose of these rites and rituals was for the living to commune with the dead and to establish relationships with the spiritual ancestors. The aim of the rituals was to win over favor with the deceased whose spirits were considered caretakers in the "sphere of fertility." Dziady is celebrated in the European Slavic and Baltic regions.

  • 31 Days of Halloween...Day 1, Origins: Gaelic, Christian, and North American Influences

Introducing an Unpopped Colonels special series: 31 Days of Halloween. Is it a holiday, a celebration, or a festival? Some folks love it, others can't be bothered. But one thing is certain...Halloween is a beloved celebration not only in the United States, but globally.

This is Day 1 (Episode 1) of the 31 Days of Halloween. In this episode, Christopher dealves into early Gaelic, Christian, and colonial North American influences to what has become the modern American Halloween experience. Dating back 2000 years, early Gaelics celebrated Samhain, which celebrated the end of the harvest season, generally at the end of October. After the Romans conquered Celtic lands around CE 43, Christian leaders, including the Pope, attempted to redefine Samhain but to no avail, except creating two new holidays All Saints Day (November 1st) and All Souls Day (November 2nd), leaving Samhain to be celebrated on October 31st, renamed All Hallows Eve. As colonial North America received Celtic immigrants, the holidays and celebrations went with them.

  • Chemical Trails (CHEMTRAILS) Conspiracy Theory

In this episode, the Unpopped Colonels talk about the Chemical Trails (CHEMTRAILs) Conspiracy Theory. Condensation Trails (CONTRAILs) are a thing in the airborne transportation industry...those cloud-like, straight-line things up in the sky emminating from in-flight aircraft way up in the troposphere. Of course - those are CONTRAILs!..or are they? There are those among us who say they are CHEMTRAILs, deliberately placed by the government for a variety of reasons.

The Colonels compare and contrast CONTRAILs and CHEMTRAILs, and offer-up a notional scenario - NOTIONAL! - with a little aircraft modification, material loading, a little chemistry, and a couple of other insights we learned along the way.

This is a fun conversation. We'd love to hear from you. Visit us at https://unpoppedcolonels.com or drop us an e-mail at [email protected]. We don't have a phone number.
