This episode is dedicated to one of my absolute favorite Sunday school teachers who recently listened to episodes 3 and 5. We spent the better part of my childhood and teen years together and I can say that she is one of the very few people involved in the church who in my view, loves like Jesus. After a recent conversation, I took a look back on our somewhat parallel lives and the vastly different viewpoints we have of our past and present. Disillusionment and forgiveness are the resounding themes you will here in this episode. Enjoy!

Hi friends, thanks for coming back for episode 5 of Unraveled, Untamed and Reframed. I’m grateful that you gave me another shot to open your mind. I understand that this may have been tough to listen to for some, and I’m so grateful that you’ve decided to stick with it. 

To be absolutely clear, I’m not trying to take anyone away from their faith. I’m not starting a new religion, nor do I want to be any kind of spiritual leader. I am sharing my story and I’m opening the door for those who have been turned away by the traditional church or for those who feel like their current belief system is no longer serving them.

This podcast is really a continuation of episode 3. If you haven’t listened to that episode, you may want to go back. This one will make more sense.

I’d like you to think about why you feel the need to go to a church to be close to God. Is it because you like the music? The people? The sermon? Does it make you feel at peace? Do you get energized when you leave that space? Maybe you go because you’ve always gone and because that’s what your peers do. 

I’d also like you to consider other avenues of spiritual connection. As mentioned in Episode 3, I was abruptly removed from the church because of my sexuality. I was forced to reexamine my faith and how it would be able to be present in my life again. I believe that I went through a grieving process in a way. When I got to the other side of the shock, denial, bargaining, anger, guilt, depression and finally acceptance, I found that there is a whole world outside of the teachings of the church. I also found an authenticity in people who were not burdened down with the dogma of needing a savior and the reminder of being a perpetual sinner.
