🎙️ Uniquely Human - Episode 6
Guest: Matthew Winters
Host: Arvin Ross + Dr. Michelle Ament
Presented by: The Human Intelligence Movement
🔍Episode Summary:
The Portrait of an AI-Infused Learner isn't a tech document. It's a human one.
Matt Winters is the AI Education Specialist for the Utah State Board of Education, the first full-time hire of its kind at a state level in the country. He built Utah's Portrait of an AI-Infused Learner and has spent two years navigating the gap between what AI policy says and what actually happens in a classroom.
In this conversation, Michelle Ament, Arvin Ross, and Matt wrestle with what it means for humans to be in the central decision-making position and not just in the loop, why agentive AI is the thing that keeps them up at night, and what we actually owe students before AI gets there first.
This is not a conversation about tools. It is a conversation about what it means to be uniquely human.

🎙️ Uniquely Human - Episode 5
Guest: Nick Yoder, Michael Crawford, Larissa Black
Host: Arvin Ross + Dr. Michelle Ament
Presented by: The Human Intelligence Movement
🔍Episode Summary:
We have the research. We have the frameworks. We have the data. And kids are still leaving school without the skills that matter most.
Something isn't adding up.
In this episode of Uniquely Human, Michelle and Arvin bring together three people who have given their careers to this problem and still can't fully explain why it isn't solved.
Nick Yoder has spent two decades building the research case. Kids are still waiting.
Michael Crawford has mapped exactly what the workforce needs. Schools still aren't building it.
Larisa Black has trained hundreds of teachers to put students first. The system keeps putting everything else first.
Four perspectives. One question the room can't escape:
If the answers exist, why does the system keep producing the same outcomes?
This isn't a conversation about what's broken. It's a conversation about what we might be too attached to that's getting in our way.
Join us live. Bring your honest thinking.

🎙 Live from FETC | Kids Have the Skills. We're Just Not Looking.
Guest: Hanna Mick
Host: Arvin Ross + Dr. Michelle Ament
Presented by: The Human Intelligence Movement
🔍Episode Summary:
Hanna Mick asked her students to write down their goals because research says you're 42% more likely to achieve them. They fired back: prove it.
And she thought, yes. That's exactly the skill we say they're missing.
Hanna Mick is a school counselor who showed up at FETC 2026 with a truth that pushes back on one of education's favorite complaints. We keep saying kids lack human skills. Hannah says they have them. We're just not assessing them.
The students who challenged her statistics were thinking critically and demanding evidence. The kid who turned his counseling sessions into a book series pulled other students into the work without anyone asking him to. The students who called the local Humane Society, identified a real need, and built products to meet it? When the grant money ran out, they funded it themselves.
Human skills show up when the conditions are right. Choice, creation, real problems, room to care about something. The question was never whether kids can be resilient, adaptable, or collaborative. It's whether we've built a system that lets them show it.
This one is for anyone who's ever looked at a kid and seen more than the system is measuring.
Part of the Game Changers Series, recorded live at FETC 2026.

🎙 PORTRAIT OF A LEARNER | Stop Winning the Wrong Game
Guest: Rody Boonchouy + Travis Allen
Host: Arvin Ross + Dr. Michelle Ament
Presented by: The Human Intelligence Movement
🔍Episode Summary:
The educators who designed our schools were the best students. That might be the exact problem.Rody Boonchouy, Superintendent of Winters Joint Unified School District, raised a question at his board retreat: How have we progressed over the last 23 years? He pulled every data point he could find. Almost nothing had changed — 2% improvement in ELA across two decades of effort, initiative after initiative, leader after leader. His conclusion: the system is perfectly designed to produce the results it gets. This final episode brings together Rody, Travis Allen, Co-President of the Human Intelligence Movement and CEO of ProSolve, and Roman Stearns of Scaling Student Success for the most confrontational conversation in this series. They name the race for human relevancy that we are quietly losing, why 60% of employers report letting go of recent graduates for lacking basic entry-level skills, and what it actually takes to stop optimizing a game that was never built for today's world.
Portrait of a Learner is a special 4-part series from Unscripted Intelligence and Scaling Student Success, spotlighting California superintendents leading the shift to whole-child education.

🎙 PORTRAIT OF A LEARNER | When the Portrait Becomes the Culture
Guest: Dr. Jaron Fried
Host: Arvin Ross + Dr. Michelle Ament
Presented by: The Human Intelligence Movement
🔍Episode Summary:
There's a difference between getting people to buy into your vision and getting them to own it. Dr. Jaron Fried has been leading the Anaheim Union High School District for over a decade — a 25,000-student secondary district in Orange County that Roman Stearns of Scaling Student Success plainly names as the most advanced district in the state. Eight years ago, Anaheim stopped teaching to the test, reimagined district benchmarks, and rebuilt its schools around a capstone program grounded in student voice, civic engagement, and authentic performance. This conversation gets into what that actually took: how every single student across all 20 schools now participates in a civic action project each year, and why seniors and eighth graders present portfolios of evidence to panels of parents, community partners, and future employers. When education stops being something done to students and starts being something built with them, everything changes. 🎙 PORTRAIT OF A LEARNER | The Learner Came First
Guest: Dr. Matt Doyle + Dr. Gary Storts
Host: Arvin Ross + Dr. Michelle Ament
Presented by: The Human Intelligence Movement
🔍Episode Summary:
Two districts, two completely different contexts, one shared belief: the knowledge age is over, and the intelligence age demands more from everyone.Dr. Matt Doyle, Superintendent of Vista Unified School District in North San Diego County, spent a year building a learner portrait with more than 500 voices, the majority of them students. Dr. Gary Storts, Superintendent of Eureka City Schools in Humboldt County, leaned into a community that has had to reinvent itself more than once, and built a portrait around resilience for exactly that reason. Roman Stearns of Scaling Student Success joins to name what these two very different districts have in common, and what it cost them to get here without state support. This conversation gets into what happened when Vista's students called the adults' bluff and demanded a portrait for grown-ups, too, how Eureka uses student portfolio defenses at every grade transition to have kids make the case for who they're becoming, and why Roman believes both districts are among the furthest along in California toward a truly competency-based system.Portrait of a Learner is a special 4-part series from Unscripted Intelligence and Scaling Student Success, spotlighting California superintendents leading the shift to whole-child education.

🎙 PORTRAIT OF A LEARNER | The Portrait Is the Promise Guest: Dr. Michelle Savko + Dr. April MooreHost: Arvin Ross + Dr. Michelle AmentPresented by: The Human Intelligence Movement🔍Episode Summary:Most districts have a portrait of a graduate on the wall. Sierra Sands Unified is building one that lives in every classroom, every board meeting, and every grade level from TK to 12th.Dr. April Moore, Superintendent of Sierra Sands Unified School District, and Deputy Superintendent Dr. Michelle Savko are leading this work in one of California's most remote rural communities. No state mandate is pushing them here. No compliance requirement. Just a conviction that the skills communities say they want for kids should actually be the skills schools are accountable for building. We talk through how Sierra Sands engaged their entire community to define Portrait of a Graduate competencies, how they built learner progressions from transitional kindergarten through 12th grade, what it took to bring the school board in as a genuine accountability partner. 🎙 Live from FETC | Your Why Is the First Fight
Guest: Barbara Bray
Host: Arvin Ross + Dr. Michelle Ament
Presented by: The Human Intelligence Movement
🔍Episode Summary:
Barbara Bray has been in education long enough to watch the system lock down creativity, open it back up, and lock it down again. Her word for this year is advocate. She means it personally.
At FETC 2026, Barbara did what she does best: she got people to stop performing and start being honest about where they actually are. Not the polished version. The real one. The one where some educators are stuck, some are afraid, and some have lost the thing that got them into this work in the first place.
Her framework is rooted in Ikigai, the Japanese concept for the reason you get up in the morning. Not a bumper sticker, but a starting point. For adaptability, resilience, and the ability to keep going when the system is actively working against you.
Her unavoidable truth: gatekeepers are real, and they keep coming back. The compliance culture that crushed creativity during No Child Left Behind is circling again. Barbara is still here. Still coaching. Still dangerous in the best possible way.
This one is for anyone who's lost the thread and needs someone to say: you are worth fighting for.

🎙 Live from FETC | Unscripted Intelligence: Game Changers Series
Guest: Matt Winters
Host: Arvin Ross + Dr. Michelle Ament
Presented by: The Human Intelligence Movement
🔍Episode Summary:
Twenty-five years ago, a student couldn't make a video without a computer lab. Now they can produce one on a Chromebook before lunch.
Matt Winters thinks we're about to miss the point entirely.
Matt Winters is the AI Education Specialist at the Utah State Board of Education, and as far as he knows, the first full-time state-level AI education hire in the country. At FETC 2026, he laid out what Utah is building: portraits of AI-ready learners, AI-infused teachers, and an ecosystem that extends into business and higher education. All of it rooted in community input. All of it grounded in knowledge, skills, and dispositions.
His unavoidable truth reframes how we think about assessment. The videos, the podcasts, the polished publications students can produce today? Those aren't the finish line. They're the starting point. And if schools keep treating them as final products, we'll skip straight to the end without building the skills that matter.
This one is for anyone making AI decisions for a district and wondering where the guardrails should actually go.

🎙️Unscripted Intelligence | Proudly partnering with HeyBodhi
Guest: Dr. Jim Masters, Neesha Nanda + Samantha Gleason
Host: Arvin Ross + Dr. Michelle Ament
Presented by: The Human Intelligence Movement
The Root Cause | Culture, Burnout, and What Actually Fixes Education
Nobody fixed a broken culture with a new program.
In this episode of Unscripted Intelligence, we sit down with Dr. Jim Masters, Neesha Nanda, and Samantha Gleason to dig into what's actually at the root of the burnout crisis, the culture crisis, and the retention crisis in education.
And it's not what most people think.
Dr. Masters took a district from 124th to 19th in climate rankings. Not with an initiative. With relationships. With three questions. With the radical act of actually listening.
Neesha and Sam built HeyBodhi because they kept watching AI get used to make a broken system run faster, when what educators needed was something that helped them show up human.
Regulated. Connected. Whole.
When teachers thrive, students thrive. The data proves it. The heart already knows it.
