This series will explore how romantic relationships can work during medical school, the challenges that these relationships often face, and helpful tools and strategies for navigating these challenges. We will host in-depth discussions and explore the personal stories of unique couples with partners who are in medical training.
In this episode, we host returning guest star Ellie Sidler (UCCOM class 2022) and discuss key challenges that all medical school relationships face, including dealing with absence, competitive stress, and the "postponement trap". Today on the UnsCripted podcast, Rachel and Alex sit down with Dr. Amy Mechley to discuss how to talk to patients about lifestyle medicine and how to discuss help promotion with patients. Dr. Mechley is Family & Integrative Medicine physician who has practiced in Cincinnati for 20 years. She received training in Mind Body Medicine at Harvard Medical School and additional certification in Cardiac Wellness at Massachusetts General Hospital. She is the first physician in the Cincinnati area to be board-certified in Lifestyle Medicine and has been annually awarded local “Best Doctor” since 2010.
This episode covers several important topics, such as talking to patients about their obesity, connecting with patients with techniques like reflective listening, and positively motivating patients to make tailored lifestyle changes. Burnout. Ever heard of it? Well, according to the 2021 Medscape National Physician Burnout & Suicide Report, 42% of physicians reported that they are burned out. In this episode, we sit down with Dr. Michael Holliday, UC Family Medicine Physician, Medical Director of University Health Services & Assistant Professor at UCCOM, to shine a light on burnout. What is it? What causes it? What can we do about it? Dr. Holliday shares his own personal experience with burnout, and we chat about how burnout can affect medical professionals and trainees of all stages.

In this episode of the UnsCripted Podcast, Alex and Rachel sit down with Claudia Mort (UC College of Medicine Class of 2023) to discuss the benefits and proper utilization of medical interpreters in the clinical environment. In addition to pursuing her medical degree, Claudia is also a trained medical interpreter and completed her training in this field in 2019 through "Bridging the Gap", and has served as a medical interpreter at three different clinics.
We talk about when and why you should use a medical interpreter, the scope of practice of medical interpreters, and the "Dos and Don'ts" that providers should follow when there is a language barrier between them and their patient.

Dr. Andrew Beck (MD, MPH) is a Board Certified Pediatrician at Cincinnati Children's Hospital and Medical Center. Dr. Beck has studied anthropology at Yale University, earned a MPH at Harvard University, attended medical school at the University of Pittsburgh, and received residency and fellowship training at CCHMC. He currently serves as a primary care pediatrician and hospitalist, and he leads CCHMC's community health initiative.
In this episode of the Unscripted Podcast, we sit down with Dr. Beck to discuss how health care professionals in training can help identify and address the underlying socioeconomic factors that influence patients' health perceptions and experiences. On today's episode we sit down with Colton Boney, a M1 at the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine and the Founder and Former Director of Good Samaritan Clinic’s Hepatitis C treatment program and HIV testing program in Santa Rose County, Florida, to discuss topics such as how to suggest STD testing to our patients, telling a patient they have HIV or AIDs, dispelling common myths surrounding HIV and how we as physicians can limit health disparities.
