  • The Mass Exodus of Nola & EMERGENCY! with Doctor Mutter!

    Send us Fan Mail

Look. I love New Orleans as much or more than some. She has her beauties and she has her nightmares. I don’t really know how to address this except to address it head on. My husband is a specialist psychiatrist and we cannot keep up with inflation of everything. I’m coming to you very vulnerable right now. I have built a brand around the city that I love so much.  Property taxes that are drowning homeowners. Homeowners insurance, (that is really hard to attain.)  Car insurance that is laughable to most of the country. A private school system that is lovely but suffocating. How is New Orleans going to handle this? Luckily, we have our friends over at Berkshire and Hathaway  And real estate with Steph. Luckily  we have professionals that can help us steer and the direction we need to go. Whether it’s on the South Shore or in the parish like Chalmette or on the North Shore. Stephanie knows everything and I’m excited to invite you to this conversation,  because it is deep..

Find everything about our amazing sponsor and representative Stephanie at www.realestatewithsteph.com

Then later, we welcome our amazing partners over at Ochsner children’s to bring our second segment of EMERGENCY!! With Dr. Mutter.
I’m so excited about this because we have submissions from our amazing audience. The listeners submit their questions and if chosen by Dr. Mutter, they receive a gift card from Rouses markets!
We are asking about summer holiday vacation! And the winner goes to Victoria  Zemke! There are so many things that parents should be aware of during summer holiday and this segment will show you that. Congratulations to Victoria and we cannot wait to introduce the next segment of. EMERGENCY!! with Dr Mutter.

    Send us Fan Mail

May is National Foster Care Awareness Month. It is a time to acknowledge the 463,000 American children and youth in foster care and the family members, foster caregivers, volunteers, mentors, child welfare professionals, and policymakers who help children and youth find permanent homes and connections.
Today we welcome back our partners and friends over at ComfortCases.org.
The founder, Rob has been on the show multiple times and we have had a blast. But this time, he has left the room!
We are welcoming another important piece to the puzzle, Heidi Webb!
Heidi breaks down what is exactly in a comfort case. But most importantly, she really paints an emotional picture of what it is like in the beginning for a child entering the system as they are given a plastic trash bag to put all of their belongings in.
      Y’all, it is heart wrenching.
Listen as Heidi talks about all of the hundreds upon hundreds of volunteers that come together to create these Comfort Cases, these packs stuffed with love.
All to give these kids dignity in the darkest times of their lives.

I strongly suggest you get involved with comfortcases.org like we have.
And They are coming to New Orleans this Fall!
Find out how you can get involved! [email protected]

Then later, we welcome a BRAND SPANKIN' NEW SEGMENT! Sponsored by our friends at New Orleans Ice Cream Co.
We present to you, "The NolaPapa Secret Fun Stop!"
My mission to find SECRET, FUN SPOTS around South Louisiana. We all have our usual places that we go to regularly. This is different. Think Unique!
Our first guest created her business 12 Years ago by captivating her tour groups filled with children of all ages as they walked the streets of the Historic French Quarter.
Jill Dresser's inspiring story of perseverance will allow us all to be grateful for every moment, because our lives can change in a split second.

"French Quar-Tour Kids" was created to make learning fun  in a new and exciting way.
Jill has customized different Spooky Tours for the little ones from 4-9 years old and the Tween Twilight tour that is geared towards the older crowd. There are even more to choose from as well!
She invited my kids to go on her "Spooky Treasure Hunt" and we had the best time!
They especially loved playing with the real investigation gadgets!

  • Finding Peace & Then Sharing It: Featuring WWL TV Icon Karen Swensen & Psychic, Medium & Author Cari Roy

    Send us Fan Mail

If you have not gathered by now, I really love local news anchors and journalists. From a kid until now, I love following along with different ones. I remember as a boy there was this one news lady named Jean Burns back home on WDAM in Hattiesburg, Ms.
Holy Smokes.  She was a knock out. And her name was so French like. I was smitten. Imagine my reaction when my little sister won a big beauty pageant and the news came to our house to film an interview.
As I looked out of the blinds from our Southern Mississippi home my knees buckled.  There she was.  Jean Burns stepped  out of the news car.
She was so soft spoken, yet so commanding and confident in her presence.

Look, I was as gay as a peacock in a button down, but I still had an innocent childhood crush on that news lady.
And from then on, I loved News people. I even got a tour of the meteorology department at our local news WHLT22. The weather man was super nice and allowed me to see the set when I was 14 or 15. I didn't care too much about meteorology.
I just liked the cameras and sets. I was blown away at how small it felt.

And here I am later, all these years after, and I still have that same sense
    of wonderment of it all.
After I moved to New Orleans and settled down...I started to get into my new healthy rhythm that involved: local news and The Price is Right.
An unlikely pair, I'd agree.  But for me, that was my jam.
I found my place here in Nola and really loved connecting with different media personalities from the television. From the weather people like Bob Breck and Margaret Orr or News Anchors like Angela Hill, Lucy Bustamante and Karen Swensen.

Speaking of Emmy Award winning Karen Swensen- Her ability to connect with the audience was so authentically genuine. To my recollection, Lucy Bustamante had just left WWL and I was wrecked. WRECKED. I literally cried on her last 10pm segment. Stop laughing.

I didn't think there would be another journalist that would bring that level of charm, passion and kindness to that particular news desk- until there was!
In came, Karen Swensen- with such a light and a much needed smile to help Nola's scorned hearts recover over Lucy's departure. Both Lucy and Karen can smile with their eyes. Not everyone can do that.
Karen's ability to report with such a sensitive and empathetic way was unique, all in her own. She was able to share the light of a story while it still being as dark as some reporting can be.
Her smile and chemistry with everyone she worked with was inspirational.
After her husband's passing, Karen Swensen started a business called
     Life’s About Change.
Now she's partnering with other small businesses to offer a platform of hope and optimism by spotlighting artisans' products.
She is commonly seen with her bestie on The Today Show with Hoda and Jenna.
From WWL to The Today Show- the light Ms. Swensen shines with the grace and love she shares is unmatched and anyone that has met her would agree.

    Then Later,

We welcome back the cherry to my ice cream, the one and only, New Orleans Psychic Medium, Cari Roy! But this time, her introduction is a little different! This is her first time back to the show being a PUBLISHED AUTHOR! Her brand new book was just released earlier this month called "Awaken Your Intuition: Empowering Women For Success In Love & Business".

Acclaimed New Orleans Psychic Medium Cari Roy, as seen on The Today Show, A&E, Discovery and Travel Channels, is available for in-person and phone psychic and medium readings. Plus special events, bachelorette parties, speaking engagements and team building. We also offer house/business cleansings and blessings. Named #1 Psychic Medium to see

  • Mothers Really Are Superheroes: The Mother's Day Special

    Send us Fan Mail

I thought it was pretty difficult to find a mom as awesome as mine. I realized that as much as I love my own mama, there are totally moms out there that deserve to tell their own stories. My own mother's story of resilience and strength gives me motivation every single day.

With this thought I pondered, What Mothers can I find for this show? To be completely honest, I had a completely different guest planned for this segment, but as life had it they postponed and left me with an empty slot.

I describe our podcast to be like my blog, just in real life. In my blog, I learned that my own vulnerabilities and imperfections resinated with more people.
Well, it was time I found someone that fit the bill for the show.

Writer, wife and mother, Sallie Mae is a writer for our digital magazine and last year, took us on an unspeakable journey of self exploration and empowerment and strength. Being Guatemalan and raised in Southern Louisiana by 2 caucasian parents didn't come without its share of learning curves.
Sallie navigated throughout her younger years surrounded by love of her  adopted family, but also longed to find her birth family back in Guatemala.
She learned early own of her differences with the typical American Family.

While on this broadening journey of identity and investigation, Douglas and I met
Sallie Mae.  And in those first moments, everything in our lives stopped. The sounds went quiet. Except for the beating of my heart pounding out of my chest.
8 1/2 years ago, Sallie Mae changed our lives forever.
Listen to the story now and in a bit read her work in our digital magazine at
    www.nolapapa.com/digital-magazine

Then later we welcome another resilient and cool cat named Michael Cramer. He is a 22-year-old cancer survivor, bone marrow transplant recipient, social media influencer, motivational hero. He was a surfer, skater, on the Olympic Development team for windsurfing.  Stricken with multiple sicknesses, Michael's mama, Ashlee Cramer rushed by her son's side and has been there ever since.
In 2014 her husband was diagnosed with Large B Cell Lymphoma. She became the sole source of income, the caregiver for her husband, as well as mom and dad to their three children. Tragically, he died in 2016, but this only brought the family closer. July 14, 2020, heartbreak hit again. Michael was diagnosed with an insanely rare and aggressive cancer, Hepatosplenic T-cell lymphoma. Less than 200 documented cases ever. Average survival 8 months.
Ashlee quit her job to be with Michael full-time. Miraculously, 3 years later, Michael’s alive. He’s been through chemo, radiation, bone marrow transplant, near fatal GVHD (graft versus host disease), hospital admissions for gastroparesis, liver failure, AVN (avascular necrosis), it goes on. Through it all, Ashlee never left his side, and their relationship became an unbreakable bond. Together the two have taken this heartbreak and found “beauty in pain”. It’s their theme.  That and “love”.

The journey of Michael’s cancer became a story to share, a purpose to fulfill. The mother and son started a podcast, Michael and Mom Talk Cancer, and soon after, a website, a blog, YouTube videos. They use social media to update and inspire, and now they are sharing their inspirational perspective through motivational speaking. Michael is still in treatment for complications from his cancer and bone marrow transplant, but he’s alive and in remission. Michael and Ashlee speak together, doing all they can to fulfill their purpose of love and connection, not only with the cancer community, but with anyone who needs inspiration and motivation.

If there was a mother that deserves everything in this world, it'd be mama Ashlee. Her brightness and love can be felt thousands of miles away.
I urge you to see what I mean by watching their I

    Send us Fan Mail

This week's episode  is sparkling like Sunset Blvd y’all. She's twinkly like the lights in the Los Angeles cityscape... especially  when looking out from the canyons.
That feeling that I had almost 20 years ago still sits with me.
I cannot believe it has been 20 years since I found myself a refugee from New Orleans, after Hurricane Katrina.
That time was one of the scariest I have ever been in, but those particular  memories and friends I made then will last a lifetime!

I am so excited to revisit this time in my life! I didn't realize the wild direction this guest would take me on but it happened live, on this show.

With that said, our first guest this week is Emmy Award winner and Set Designer of some of the most popular tv shows in the world! Yes, I said WORLD!
The Voice? Masked Singer? The Kelly Clarkson Show? Top Chef? The Traitors!!
Y’all - I can keep going if you want! Is it Cake? (My babies LOVE that show) The Real Housewives Reunions and a new one but, you have to listen to find out.

And throwing it back to the 2000's with VH1 and Flavor of Love and I Love New York!

James (JP) Connelly is a force to be reckoned with. His creativity is absolutely inspiring and excites me to NO END! From the conception of each look of every idea to the precision of creating his diagrams from paper to screen! Listen to how it happens and what inspires him daily. It is fascinating!  And hint hint, it isn't any set you can find.
It's that bundle he holds in his arms, his beautiful baby boy. He's a gay dad too! So, this just puts him even higher in my book!

Check out everything James has worked on here!

Then later OMG. I know you know and remember the reality show, The Real World. And if you were a true fan, you  the original New Orleans Season AND Las Vegas' Season with our girl TRISHELLE!

Well guess what! She is BACK with me to talk about NOT ONLY her role in the AMAZING NEW Reality show "The Traitors" Season 2 but she spilled the tea about her own DOMINATION of that show!
Yes- Spoiler Alert! (you should have watched it by now. Sorry! )

Trishelle Cannatella WON THE WHOLE DAMN THING!
However, I knew she would from day one. Why, you may ask? Because she's my girl!
AND I know her ability to strategically think and use every situation she is in and play it to her advantage. Not to mention she is a BEAST at Poker.
The Season Finale is absolutely the best scene in ALL of REALITY SHOW HISTORY.
Yep. I said that. It was flipping Epic!

Did you know that less than 2% of Americans complete an adoption? 2%! To me, that is mind boggling with the amount children that are in this country that needs a forever home.
Although a dismal number for adoptions, 30% of Americans have contemplated adopting! That number to me is inspiring. That shows me that the desire is out there. So why does it end with 2% of completions?
81% cite the high cost of adoption as a primary barrier.
This is where The Gift of Adoption fund comes in. This amazing non profit helps hopeful parents with the last bit that they may need to cross that line to finalize.
Through the GOA fund over $18 Million in adoption assistance grants have been awarded and 5,652 children with the gift of FAMILY.

  • Getting Spooky with a New Orleans Ghost Hunter & Learning the Louisiana Lore

    Send us Fan Mail

I have ALWAYS loved to watch those ghost shows on the television . Man oh Man. Talk about something that fascinates me. It's the unknown. The mysteriousness. The fright! Yall know from time to time, Papa goes after some of these investigators. I want to learn! After all, what is the the harm of a little haunted fun?
Well, that being said, I found the MOST POPULAR ghost hunter in New Orleans. With almost 150,000 followers on Instagram, John Gualtieri is easily the bravest man in the room. Remember that eerie Christmas tree that was high up in the abandoned Charity Hospital? That's HIM! No, it wasn't Casper trying to get festive. It was John doing what he does. He explores the COOLEST and scariest abandoned places all around New Orleans and Louisiana.
My hope is he allows us to tag along one day and record a show LIVE. Here's hoping!

Yall have got to check out his stuff on Instagram. Follow him at
@new_orleans_ghost_hunter  and you will see what I am saying!

Then later I sat down with a new documentary film maker that  just released his first of many documentaries about the eerie legends of Louisiana. Chris Mathieu's doc is called
"The Forbidden Documentary: Occult Louisiana" and it explores everything from haunted history to Pirates Alley with Jean Lafitte. Yall know HE REALLY walked those streets in the Quarter.  Chris even explored the swamps of the Bayou in search of the real life Rougaroux. And THAT PARTICULAR story is absolutely WILD.
It is over an hour of real life stories that have left so many, including me is left scratching their head.
You can watch his new Documentary on Apple or Tubi:

  • Exclusive with Mayor Marc Morial & Work Out! with Anytime Fitness

    Send us Fan Mail

    Y'all.
I had to adjust my hat for this one.

Mayor Marc Morial will be celebrating his 30'th anniversary of not only becoming mayor of New Orleans  but following in his father's footsteps by being one of the First  African American Mayors. Not only that but at the time he was the youngest in history!
At 35 years old, he implemented a new way of leading. He brought EVERYONE to the table. He's the people's mayor.
In his administration, crime fell by 5 %! He had a hands on approach that REALLY reaped benefits! By the time his re elections ended he won his second term by almost 80%.
He brought an eager and ambitious plan to help revitalize all parts of this city.
His legacy lives strong as the Mayor that cleaned out city hall with a shovel, rather than a broom.
One day, this great city will find another leader like Mr. Morial. I will keep the faith.

Until then, give a read to his book, The Gumbo Coalition here:

Then, I talked to my friends over Anytime Fitness- Garden District
Personal Trainer and regional manager Sean Prevost stopped by to talk about FAILED RESOLUTIONS and how we can easily hop back on the wagon. Recently, with my own health scare, I was even more eager to learn about how to keep my own health in check! Resolutions are all to working out. Listen and learn about what you can do too!

Anytime Fitness Garden district is a great way to start!

  • A Top Chef to the RESCUE - Just Keep Swimming with Audubon Aquarium

    Send us Fan Mail

I love it when I find chefs and restaurants that not only push out the best dishes you can imagine, but also, lead by example.
In a perfect world, a restaurant would open it's doors and just cook for it's guests.
But unfortunately, that isn't the way the world works.
In the span from  dusk to dawn, a guest's life can change in an instant.

A hurricane, a fire, an oil spill, or this, takes away the option of just being able to eat.
"It's times like these you learn to live again. It's time like these you learn to give again."

Right now, Louisiana is dealing with a problem I didn't think could ever happen.
Our Louisiana Government  denied MILLIONS of dollars to feed our own state's children throughout  the summer.
Money that was sent to Louisiana for this reason was rejected.
Well, that is when the chefs and restaurants answer to the calls from the helpless.

With that said, Top Chef has always been one of my favorite shows to watch.
AND it just came back on to celebrate its 21st season!
Our first guest this week went ALL THE WAY to the finals in Season 13! (the season where they cooked all across the country)

Chef Isaac Toups and his wife, Amanda opened their restaurant, Toups Meatery back in 2012 on N Carrolton Ave and began churning out some of the most delicious cajun delicacies anyone can imagine. Since then, he and Amanda have helped during natural disasters and now have just opened it' doors to the families that will not have the money to buy food for the kids over the summer.

Folks, this is what I am talking. This is the selfless love that comes from a select few.
They are role models.  New Orleans is indebted forever to their generosity.

If you or someone you know can help Chef Isaac and Amanda on their amazing mission, please call them at 504-252-4999

Then Later, we welcome back our dear friends at Audubon Institute to see how everything is going Under the Sea at the Audubon Aquarium! What better team member to talk to than the Director of Husbandry!
This particular team member finds all of the curators and talent that fills every nook and cranny! Literally!
Over at the Aquarium, their director, Higino Covarrubias is here today to answer some of the best Sea Life questions submitted by YOU!

We had a little contest and the FIRST question selected by Mr. Higino,
wins a $25 gift card from our friends at Rouse's!
We learned so much about not only the ways the Aquarium obtains their fish and animals, Why jellyfish glow and what happens when Hurricanes come?
A fascinating show that you don't want to miss!
