You Don’t Have to Be Healed to Hit Record (with Vanessa Carroll)
You’ve done the work. You’ve pulled the wisdom out of it. And it still feels a little tender when you talk about it, so you wait.
You wait until you’re fully healed, perfectly neutral, and “over it” before you share your story.
Meanwhile, the woman two steps behind you is desperately looking for someone who gets it right now.
In this Friday live, I’m joined by Vanessa Carroll, EFT practitioner and coach, to talk about who gets to hear your story, how to know when it’s ready to share, and what’s really happening when your body slams on the brakes right before you hit record.
We get into why confidence comes after the reps and never before them, why the fear you feel is a symptom of something older, how EFT and conversational hypnosis reach the part of you that’s still protecting you, and why affirmations can’t outrun a belief system that says this isn’t for you.
And then something neither of us planned happened. Vanessa shared, for the first time on camera, the letter she wrote to her younger self and the steps she took to go from writing it down to saying it out loud. It’s one of the most real moments we’ve had on these lives.
In this episode:
* 00:00 Who gets to hear your story
* 01:30 Sharing while you’re still in it vs. waiting until you’re through it
* 05:45 Why it’s so hard for leaders to be seen mid-process
* 07:15 Where imposter syndrome really comes from
* 09:15 Be the person you wish you’d had
* 13:00 When your body hits the brakes before you go live
* 15:30 Confidence comes after the reps
* 16:50 Fear is the symptom: finding where it started
* 18:40 EFT and bringing safety to your younger self
* 21:50 Why affirmations don’t stick
* 23:50 What conversational hypnosis actually looks like
* 26:35 Vanessa’s letter to her younger self
* 33:00 Finding people with the capacity to hold your story
* 36:40 The birthplace of the UnShrinking U Podcast, and The Practice by Seth Godin
* 41:20 How to work with Vanessa and Tammy

Be Visible Anyway
Real Conversations on Fear, Rejection, Belonging & Using Your Voice
What does it actually cost to be seen?
Not just to turn on the camera or hit publish—but to let people hear what you really think, tell the story that shaped you, and allow yourself to be perceived without knowing exactly how it will land.
In this episode of UnShrinking U, Tammy McCroary sits down with Vannessa Carroll for a candid conversation about visibility, storytelling, rejection, belonging, and the protective patterns that can quietly keep us from using our voice.
Tammy shares what she has been noticing in her own relationship with being visible—the over-fussing, scripting, editing and trying to make sure everything lands just right. And the realization that some of what makes her most powerful in conversation happens when she stops trying to control it.
Because being unscripted isn't the problem.
Sometimes, it's the magic.
They explore what changes when connection stops meaning:
Everyone has to understand me.
No one can judge me.
My message needs to land perfectly.
And instead becomes:
I can show up with my presence, my story and my voice—and trust that the right people will recognize themselves in it.
Vannessa brings another layer to the conversation: the very real cost of telling your story when speaking your truth has previously brought rejection, shame, disconnection or a feeling that you no longer belong.
Sometimes staying quiet isn't a confidence problem.
It's protection.
And yet, there can come a point when the cost of staying frozen becomes greater than the perceived safety of staying small.
In this conversation, we explore:
The protective pattern underneath overthinking your visibility
Why trying to perfectly script yourself can disconnect you from your natural voice
Being willing to be misunderstood, judged—or simply not for everyone
Why connection isn't the same as certainty
Rejection, belonging and the fear of activating discomfort in other people
The shift from I'd rather be liked than upset anyone to recognizing the impact your story may have
The rationalizing voice that asks, “Who even cares?”
Imposter syndrome and the discomfort of becoming known
Regulating yourself while becoming more visible
Why the goal isn't to connect with everyone—it's to become more available to the people you're actually here for
There is a different kind of freedom in realizing:
You don't need everyone to understand you in order to be understood by the right people.
And maybe the work isn't becoming fearless enough to be visible.
Maybe it's becoming connected enough to yourself that fear no longer gets the final vote.

This audio is designed to be listened to daily, alongside your 7-Day Nervous System Reset PDF.
You do not need to save it for a specific day or moment. Come back to it every day of the week. Let it become part of the rhythm. Some days it will land differently than others. That is the point.
Open your PDF, do the day’s practice, and let this be what holds the space around it.
If you’d like to go deeper and map exactly where this pattern is running in your specific life, you’re welcome to book a free UnShrinking Assessment with Tammy at calendly.com/tammymccroary/unshrinking-you
Have you ever wondered why you can't switch off... even when nothing is wrong?
Why you replay conversations, overthink simple decisions, feel guilty setting boundaries, or carry the emotional weight of everyone around you?
What if the problem isn't anxiety at all?
In this special workshop replay, Tammy McCroary introduces The UnShrinking Method—a three-part framework developed through seven years of clinical practice helping high-functioning women uncover the hidden survival pattern beneath chronic overfunctioning, people-pleasing, and emotional exhaustion.
In this episode you'll discover:
• Why what you've been calling anxiety may actually be a subconscious survival response.• The hidden role rejection sensitivity plays in keeping capable women stuck.• Why insight and self-awareness alone rarely create lasting change.• How the nervous system, subconscious mind, and body work together to create a new baseline for lasting transformation.• The three foundational keys of The UnShrinking Method: The Root Map, The Subconscious Reset, and The Body Release.
If you've ever thought, "I know what my patterns are... so why can't I change them?" this conversation was created for you.
You are not broken.
You are not too much.
You may simply be living from a survival pattern that no longer needs to run your life.
If today's episode gave language to something you've been carrying, I'd love to keep the conversation going.
Text "STEADY" to 1-782-608-3271.
I'll send you the next step inside The UnShrinking Method, along with exclusive resources and updates to help you move from surviving to steady.
I'm so glad you're here.
