In this podcast, we explore the University of Hawaii at Manoa’s engineering school with our guests, Dimitri Vien and Brenton Sasaoka, who are both seniors in the program studying electrical and civil engineering respectively. They explain the differences between the four types of engineering offered: electrical, civil, mechanical, and computer engineering, as well as why they chose their majors.

They also explain how their classes are structured and the different clubs and internships they have been a part of. They also share their long-term career goals and give a glimpse to what they think an engineering career may look like in terms of work-life balance and variety. They also share about Hawaii’s major players when it comes to engineering, like Pearl Harbor and HECO, before ending with their best tips for any student considering engineering!

In this podcast, we bring back Suzie Park and introduce Tiana Hughes to talk about graduating from UH Manoa and what it is like in the working life. Suzie, who formerly hosted this podcast as a student, graduated as a communications major in December of 2021 and is currently an assistant account executive in a personal relations team at Anthology marketing group. Tiana graduated as a global environmental science major in May of 2022 and is currently an environmental scientist at an environmental geotechnical engineering consulting firm.

Through this conversation, we explore the process of job searching and key things to look for in a future workplace. We also discuss how college prepared or didn't prepare them specifically for the job they are in now, and adjustments in their lifestyle going from a full-time college student to a full-time working "adult". As always, we hear the inspiration for how they got into their majors!
