Geraldine Comiskey and I talk about Suzy’s disappearance, some of the similarities and differences to my other main case, Sophie Toscan du Plantier.

We always try to put the focus on the victims on Crime Guy, but in this case, with no credible suspects at all, Suzy has always been the centre of her own story. I think of her as ‘officially missing’ but of course she was declared dead in a legal capacity on 27 July 1993. Having someone go missing puts the family in legal limbo and makes the situation even more maddening.

Sophie Toscan du Plantier was a French film producer and journalist who had a holiday cottage near Schull, West Cork, Ireland. Just before Christmas 1996 she made her final journey to the cottage. On 23rd December she would be murdered in the driveway just beside the house. We are no nearer to understanding what happened that night, or why, or who killed her in a violent struggle using makeshift weapons found at the scene.

Geraldine Comiskey is an expert on the Sophie Toscan du Plantier case. She wrote a book "The Blow-In" about how Ian Bailey could not have been the killer. As she reached the end of the book she started to suspect Sophie's neighbour, Alfie Lyons. Almost nobody else in the world thinks it was Alfie apart from Geraldine and Mrs Crime Guy. Have a listen!

I can almost now say that Mary Carr needs no introduction. This is largely due to Stephen Knight’s amazing Disney+ show called A Thousand Blows. Series 1 is out now and Series 2 is coming very soon indeed. But Emma Woodhouse has been studying the life of Mary in detail since 2021 and has a novelised account of her life out now. In 2026 she will publish a nonfiction book about Mary with Pen & Sword.

Crime Guy sat down with Nafisa Tosh in her studio in east London. He was immediately exposed to a top secret outfit that he was not allowed to photograph, look at or comment upon. He has thought about little else since.

After recovering my senses, we got down to business and talked the back legs off a tired donkey. We’re going to be doing more of this in 2025, thank goodness. We talked mainly about A Thousand Blows and Dope Girls but also how this stuff is still going on today.
