A prisoner prays for a church far away — and overflows with joy. The prayer moves from thanksgiving to one of the most assuring sentences in Scripture: He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion. For everyone with an unfinished life: the verdict on your future belongs to His faithfulness, not your grip.Go deeper in the free companion study — this passage, at your own pace: https://interactivebiblestudio.com.

Two verses on whoyou are, whose you are, and where every good thing comes from.

The whole letter, gathered. Light, love, and truth; the tests and the assurance they serve; the Advocate, the anointing, the family resemblance, and the love that casts out fear — read back through the letter's own claim: these things I have written that you may know. One letter, one knowing, one final act of beholding.

The sentence the whole letter was written for: I have written these things to you who believe, that you may know that you have eternal life. Confidence in prayer, the intercession we owe each other, three great "we knows" — and the letter's last word, sudden and tender: little children, keep yourselves fromidols.

Three witnesses in agreement — the Spirit, the water, and the blood — and a testimony greater than any human court: the testimony God has given about His Son. This is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. Whoever has the Son has life.
** *A note on verses 7–8: this reading follows theearliest Greek manuscripts, as nearly all modern translations do (including the Berean Standard Bible we read from). Some older English Bibles include a longer wording here ("the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit") that entered the manuscript tradition much later. Nothing in the passage's teaching — or the Bible's teaching on the Trinity — depends on the longer wording.***

Why His commandments are not burdensome, how faith and love andobedience interlock, and who actually overcomes: only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.Go deeper in the free companion study — this passage, at your own pace: https://interactivebiblestudio.com
Confidence for the day of judgment — for in this world we are just like Him. There is no fear in love; perfect love drives out fear, because fear involves punishment. Where assurance actually comes from, why we love at all — He first loved us — and the brother test that keeps love honest.

Not merely that God loves — God is love. And love was defined, not felt: God sent His one and only Son as the atoning sacrifice for our sins. Love consists in this — not that we loved God, but that He loved us. Why loved people love, and how the invisible God is seen among us.

Do not believe every spirit. Many false prophets have gone out — so how does an ordinary believer tell truth from deception? The confession that marks the Spirit of God, the antichrist spirit already in the world, and the promise for theoutnumbered: greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.
