In today's episode we chat to Laura Morrison. Laura has worked as a Speech Pathologist in rural, regional and metropolitan areas in Australia, as well as the UK, focusing on dysphagia and acquired communication disorders in the adult population within both the public and private sectors. In this episode we pick Laura's brain about her specialist knowledge in treating patients with a progressive neurological condition with emphasis on quality of life in palliative populations. Laura's current roles include specialist MND clinic, residential aged care and outpatient dysphagia clinic.  We discuss Laura's research project in oral health, and also the communication of safe eating and drinking within the healthcare system. Laura opened our eyes to so many areas that we were not so familiar with, and we are so grateful to have had the opportunity to have such a rich conversation with Laura. In today’s Up + Coming Speechies in the loop episode, we are SO excited to be chatting to Professor Sharynne McLeod. Sharynne is a professor of speech and language acquisition, researcher and advocate for communication rights for all. She specialises in multilingual children’s speech acquisition and children with speech sound disorders. She has made an incredible contribution to our profession, and after learning from her books and research for many years it was an honour to sit down and chat with her. In this episode we talk about Sharynne’s career pathway, her research and incredible experiences, including presenting to the United Nations and her most current projects. HAPPY SWALLOWING AWARENESS DAY!! Today in the Up + Coming Speechies in the loop episode we are so EXCITED to be chatting to the incredible Dr Ianessa Humbert!  Dr Humbert is a swallowing expert, researcher, professor and of course speech pathologist. She is also co-creator of the wonderful podcast, Down the Hatch and co-founder of STEP, swallowing training and education portal. Dr Humbert is based in Washington DC, so this interview was an early one, but such a good one! In this episode we chat about Dr Humbert’s pathway to swallowing, overcoming clinician comfortability and ensuring accountability and patient centred care, and the need for more training and universal evidenced based practice within dysphagia management. We cannot explain how inspired we felt after our discussion with Dr Humbert, and we hope  you're left feeling the same way after giving the episode a listen!
