You may call it “No Shave November” but we call it “Military Month.” To that, Up in Your Business has melded together two of my guests: USAF Brigadier General, John Michel and Colonel Angela Ochoa.

Charged with leading and building an Afghanistan Air Force, General Michel had to think outside the norms to blend 14 nations into one working family. Having grown up in France working in his grandmother’s European restaurant, he knew something about hospitality and different cultures. Thus, the social media phenomenon known as the Gratitude Café was born in Kabul, Afghanistan.

Hired as the first female commander of the Little Rock Air Force Base, Colonel Ochoa has had to think outside the box, too. From breast feeding on the flight line, to flying over 3,000 hours in support of four different missions, she has done it all over the course of two decades.

This week on Up In Your Business With Kerry McCoy is Part Two of my telling interview with Ms. Susan McDougal, known as The Woman Who Wouldn’t Talk (also the title of her book), during Kenneth Starr’s 1994, media-circus trial of President Clinton and the Whitewater Investigation. If you missed Part One, go back and listen; her early life with Jim McDougal is fascinating!

Before the interview, I read her book and must shamefully confess that, even though I lived through the Whitewater era, I really knew no more than the sound bites I heard on TV.

In today’s Part Two episode, she recounts the widely televised trial and tears up as she speaks of her heartfelt concern for the lost women she meets in prison. And learn what the term “Diesel Therapy” means and how it was tortuously used against her by attorney Kenneth Starr and Judge Susan Webber Wright.

In his honor, we decided to replay our interview on Up In Your Business with the late legendary boxing coach, cut man, and three-time Hall of Fame recipient, Ray Rodgers.

Ray exhibits some of my favorite qualities: he has the heart of a teacher, works hard, and has a great sense of humor.

In this show Ray talks about the importance of a cut man in the boxing ring, and how his expertise in lacerations opened doors and took him across the globe with Olympic winner Jermain Taylor.

With all the refusing to testify and “contempt of court” in the news, Up In Your Business decided to replay my interview with Ms. Susan McDougal, the most interesting person of the 1994 Whitewater investigation.

In the mid-90s, Susan’s face was everywhere. She was interviewed by Diane Sawyer and Larry King. We first saw her as an attractive court defendant, but later, the image we came to remember was of her being taken from jail in her orange jumpsuit, shackles, and chains.

In 1994, this young woman was made the target of Republican Counselor Kenneth Starr’s Whitewater investigation into what some call the “Hunting of President Clinton.”

To put things in perspective, last week, Steve Bannon received four months of incarceration and a $6,500 fine for criminal contempt of Congress. In the mid 90’s, Susan and her family went broke in defense fees while she spent years imprisoned in not one but four different jails.

Though no wrongdoing by the Clintons was ever found, a vendetta against Susan McDougal remained. Through misuse of judicial power, Susan would be subjected to Diesel Therapy during her jail time and serve the longest sentence of any persons convicted in the Whitewater case.

In preparation for this interview, I read her book, The Woman Who Wouldn’t Talk. It is a tell-all biography you don’t want to miss. It is an eye opener into abuse of judicial power, fake media, and corrupt politics.

Today on Up In Your Business with Kerry McCoy was an easy show to prepare for because my staff and D.J. legend Tom Wood, turned the tables and interviewed me. That’s right, all I had to do was show up and tell my story.

With son Gray, hosting beside me at the table, I dug into family folklore. He heard, again, a story we never tire of, how my father, a purple heart recipient, was shot down in WWII and taken prisoner for two years. And heard anew, the influences my mother had on the founding and continued success of Arkansas Flag and Banner, Inc.

For me, it was fun! I mean who doesn’t love to spend an hour talking about themselves.

Today on Up In Your Business with Kerry McCoy I sit down for a conversation with a power couple that has deep roots in Arkansas: the 2019 Farm Family of the Year, Jamie Anderson and his wife Elizabeth Burns Anderson.

There are not many businesses that last past the second generation, and certainly not the third. But Anderson Farms, a fish hatchery, and Farmers Bank and Trust in Magnolia are the exception.

Founded in 1949 by his great grandfather, Jamie Anderson became the fourth generation to run their fish farm, made up of 3,300 acres of water with an 11,000 square foot fish hatchery. This makes them the largest producer of bait fish in the world.

Elizabeth Burns Anderson is the fifth generation to run her family business, Farmers Bank and Trust, founded over 100 years ago by her great, great grandfathers.

My guest today on Up In Your Business with Kerry McCoy is none other than the honorable Mayor of Little Rock, Arkansas, Mr. Frank Scott. His life demonstrates what I’ve seen time and time again on my show, and that is: “Successful people work hard, believe in a higher power, and are action oriented.”

Mayor Scott has had a very diverse career. He has been an executive at First Security Bank, a staffer for Governor Mike Beebe, a manager for a Target distribution center, a state highway commissioner, and a board member of the LR Port Authority and Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Arkansas.

Although his credentials are impressive, what endeared Mayor Scott to me was his open mindedness and willingness to try new things. As a youth, he was a Horace Mann Bear Cat football player who, later, was not afraid to take ballet. I’m SOLD! Oh, did I mention he is a Baptist associate pastor? This man can preach!

After touching on his early life and career, the Mayor and I discuss the ins and outs of his renewed “Rebuild the Rock” campaign, aimed at revitalizing the City of Little Rock.

Hear how he feels the proposed sales tax would improve early childhood care, create a senior center, revitalize our parks and recreation facilities, and improve infrastructure, all while learning some interesting facts about our fast-growing city, along the way.

This week, Kerry catches up with the car-man Steve Landers, and gets to the bottom of why he decided to come out of retirement fo run for mayor!
