The SACP has snubbed an invitation from its alliance partner to celebrate the 100 days in the GNU with it. The Communist Party revealed this at a briefing at its headquarters in Johannesburg, following a three-day meeting of the Central Executive Committee. The meeting discussed the political, economic and social state of the country and resolved on various issues, including the basic income grant, transformation of the Reserve Bank and expanded public employment, amongst others. SACP Secretary General, Solly Mapaila, says that the celebrations are taking place on the day which the party and ANC were scheduled to hold a bi-lateral meeting on pressing issues. The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) is holding interviews for the position of Judge President of the Western Cape High Court. The position has been vacant since the suspension of the last Judge that held that role, Dr John Hlophe. Since then Deputy Judge President, Patricia Goliath has acted in the role. The Public Service Commission has expressed concern at some of the challenges to service delivery in South Africa, including the fact that some of the government departments were locked out of their offices, due to unpaid rent. The commission has been briefing members of the media on its latest Pulse of the Public Service bulletin, which focuses on the service delivery complaints it has handled for the the period ending on the 30th of June 2024. The Quarterly Bulletin also highlights the challenges in government, non-payment of suppliers and the overall number grievances handed to the PSC up to that point. Public Service Commissioner, Anele Gxoyiya had this to say.

ANC Youth League is marching to the Johannesburg Stock Exchange today. The youth league is  will present a memorandum to government and private sector stakeholders with actionable demands to address their pressing concerns, about an economic freedom. The Democratic Alliance (DA) Leader John Steenhuisen says the DA is determined to ensure that every choice that is made will drive growth up and unemployment down. Steenhuisen was giving its progress in national government earlier today. He says the DA will not agree to further bail-outs for state-owned enterprises, the implementation of clauses 4 and 5 of BELA and the implementation of the National Health Insurance Scheme.   

A total of eight people have been killed in a horror crash on the N2 highway this morning. The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport says preliminary reports indicate that the crash which claimed the lives of eight young people on the N2 in Mandeni was as a result of negligent driving. It is alleged that they were travelling in a light motor vehicle when the driver lost control and crashed into an oncoming truck in another lane. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to SABC reporter, Jayed Pulse

The memorial service of the five children who died following a suspected food poisoning over the weekend in Naledi, Soweto is underway in Naledi Community Hall today. The children who are between the ages of six to ten years died within minutes of each after consuming snacks allegedly bought from a foreign owned spaza shop. The case of a 43-year-old police officer arrested for allegedly killing six people in insurance fraud has been postponed to the 18th of this month in the Polokwane Magistrate's Court for bail application. Rachel Kutumela arrived in court looking calm. Kutumela allegedly collected more than ten-million-rand during the killing spree that started in 2019. A 43-year-old Limpopo police officer, accused of involvement in at least six insurance-related murders will appear before the Polokwane magistrate's court tomorrow. The officer of law has been charged with seventeen counts of fraud. The officer, stationed at the Senwabarwana police station, in Blouberg in Limpopo was arrested earlier today.  She allegedly collected more than ten million rand in the killing spree that started in 2019.  Our reporter Pimani Baloyi caught up with police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe who says all the deceased were known to her and her from destitute families.  

Economic Freedom Fighters leader, Julius Malema has addressed members of the media from the party's headquarters, Winnie Madikizela Mandela House in Marshalltown, after the party, in coalition with the ANC and ActionSA gained control of the Tshwane metro following the ousting of DA former mayor, Cilliers Brink. Brink was ousted through a motion of no confidence and has since been replaced by ActionSA's, Dr Nasipho Moya.
