The memorial service of the five children who died following a suspected food poisoning over the weekend in Naledi, Soweto is underway in Naledi Community Hall today. The children who are between the ages of six to ten years died within minutes of each after consuming snacks allegedly bought from a foreign owned spaza shop. The case of a 43-year-old police officer arrested for allegedly killing six people in insurance fraud has been postponed to the 18th of this month in the Polokwane Magistrate's Court for bail application. Rachel Kutumela arrived in court looking calm. Kutumela allegedly collected more than ten-million-rand during the killing spree that started in 2019. A 43-year-old Limpopo police officer, accused of involvement in at least six insurance-related murders will appear before the Polokwane magistrate's court tomorrow. The officer of law has been charged with seventeen counts of fraud. The officer, stationed at the Senwabarwana police station, in Blouberg in Limpopo was arrested earlier today.  She allegedly collected more than ten million rand in the killing spree that started in 2019.  Our reporter Pimani Baloyi caught up with police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe who says all the deceased were known to her and her from destitute families.

Limpopo Social Development Department is working to relocate mentally ill patients from Vutlari Old Age Home and Hospice in Sekgosese, outside Elim, to a safer facility.  There are reports that the facility is not up to standard, not compliant nor capable to look after the patients. Some patients have reportedly died, while there are also reports of  abuse and neglect of patients at the facility. The Pretoria Magistrate's Court has postponed to 25 April 2025, the perjury case against former Public Protector, Advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane. Mkhwebane made a brief appearance in court this morning, where she is accused of lying under oath about meetings she had with former President Jacob Zuma. This is in relation to one of her findings on the ABSA-Reserve Bank matter, which she lost with costs in the Constitutional Court. The Gauteng High Court in Pretoria has dismissed with costs the application by former Public Protector, Busisiwe Mkhwebane to have her former office pay her an estimated gratuity amounting to almost 10 Million rands.  Mkhwebane has been battling to get the money in the courts after her successor Kholeka Gcaleka took a decision that, because she was removed from office for misconduct and incompetence by parliament, she has no right to the money. Lawyers for the office of the Public Protector have argued that the gratuity is not a salary nor a right in terms of her service contract but rather a discretionary payment for work well done. Nearly 17 million Mozambicans are expected to cast their votes today as the country takes to the polls in what is expected to extend the rule of the Mozambique Liberation Front (Frelimo) political party. Frelimo has governed the Southern African nation since its independence in 1975, with presidential candidates such as lawyer, Daniel Chapo, who is reportedly viewed as a safe choice for business and a fresh face for the country's long-ruling party. It still remains unclear what the outcome was of a meeting between the ANC national leadership and its Gauteng leadership. This follows the summoning of the province's Premier and chairperson of the party, Panyaza Lesufi to Luthuli House over his utterances on the formation of the Government of National Unity. The ANC's secretary general, Fikile Mbalula had written to Lesufi asking him to explain why his utterances should not be considered a violation of the party's constitution.
