The Electoral Commission says it has the responsibility to clarify constitutional principles and make sure that they are correctly applied. This is with regards to the nomination of candidates running in next month's elections. According to the commission's Chief Electoral Officer Sy Mamabolo, this is is the reason they are seeking leave to appeal the Electoral Court's ruling in favour of the uMkhonto weSizwe Party. The commission has approached the Constitutional Court on an urgent basis after the Electoral Court ruled against its disqualification of the party leader Jacob Zuma from running in next month's elections. The City of Johannesburg has issued a warning to all defaulting residential property owners and businesses that it will soon start blacklisting them to recover debts owed. The city says it also intends to invoke its Credit Control and Debt Collection Policy by reporting defaulting payers to appropriate Credit Bureaus. Lesotho is hosting its inaugural mining indaba. The event aimed at reshaping the future of Lesotho's mining industry. The event brings together key stakeholders in the mining sector to discuss critical issues and chart a path towards sustainable and equitable development. The Indaba is being held at the 'Manthabiseng Convention Centre in Maseru. The minister of natural resources in Lesotho, Mohlomi Moleko, now joins us on the line to elaborate further about the indaba.

The Ekurhuleni Metro runs the risk of being placed under administration if it fails to elect a new mayor today in what is the council's third attempt since the sacking of former mayor, Sivuyile Ngodwana. Today's extra-ordinary meeting, was meant to start at 10am but has since been delayed with the ANC and EFF caucuses believed to be locked in last-minute meetings. The DA caucus together with ActionSA councilors are already in council chambers waiting for proceedings to begin.Udo Carelse spoke to SABC reporter, Sashin Naidoo.

Airline operators, Airlink and Global Airways Operations – which co-own the domestic airline, Lift- have launched complaints with two aviation authorities against FlySafair for allegedly breaching the foreign ownership regulations as set out by the Air Services Licensing Act and the International Air Services Act. The complaint to the International Air Services Council and Air the Services License Council alleges that foreign shareholders own 74% of FlySafair, which is a violation of the conditions of its aviation license and the country's laws. The private prosecution case brought by former President, Jacob Zuma against his successor, Cyril Ramaphosa has been postponed to the 6th of August this year. This as the former President still has pending appeals that need to be concluded for the matter to be heard in the criminal court. Zuma appeared in the Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg in his capacity as private prosecutor. SABC reporter, Zoleka Qodashe has more on this.... 

The Pretoria Asset Forfeiture Unit of the National Prosecuting Authority has been granted a preservation order of over R4,3 million by the Pretoria High Court to freeze the bank account belonging to Piggy Farm Trading. It's believed the company is running a Ponzi Scheme, where individuals could purchase up to 50 virtual pigs at R2 750 each, in a digital metaverse pig farm. NPA says this is a contravention of the National Consumer Protection Act and the whole scheme appeared to be a fraud. Udo Carelse spoke to NPA's Gauteng Regional Spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana

Mossel Bay and Midvaal have been rated among the top municipalities in South Africa for financial sustainability, by ratings agency, Ratings Afrika's Municipal Financial Sustainability Index.  According to the index, most municipalities across the country are in dire financial straits and are unsustainable, demonstrating a lack of proper oversight by the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs and the respective provincial administrations. The uMkhonto WeSizwe Party has confirmed the sacking of its Youth Leader, Bonginkosi Khanyile from the position of National Coordinator of its Youth League. The MK party says his redeployment, including that of three other party members, namely Gaan Cibane, Thapelo Maisha and Gazuzu Nduli are strategic moves aimed at bolstering the party's efforts at achieving a two-thirds majority post the upcoming elections.
