Management at the  University of the Witswatersrand, in Johannesburg says the smooth running of the registration process for the 2024 academic year could be attributed to institution having pro-actively addressed some of the challenges faced by students, such as funding.  In recent years, a number of universities experienced violent protests over fees. Wits received 140 000 applications for the 2024 academic year, but it can only accommodate 6 300 first year students. Similar reports of registrations have been recorded in other parts on the country. The Dr Harry Surtie Hospital in Upington, in the Northern Cape has been plagued by complaints of poor service delivery. The air conditioning system at the hospital has reportedly been broken for some time, leading to some patients showing symptoms of heat stroke. Sources inside the hospital say there are concerns that medication will be spoiled because of the high temperature and lack of cooling infrastructure. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to SABC reporter, Ulrich Hendriks and spokesperson for the department of health in the Northern Cape, Lebohang Majaha. 

The International Monetary Forum revised down South Africa's economic growth, this year from a previous projection of one-point-eight to one-percent. The IMF attributes the downward revision of the country's growth to persistent logistical constraints and shortages in electricity supply.  The IMF's World Economic Outlook, further projects global economic growth to reach three-point-one percent this year. The Tsitsikikamma community, along the Garden Route, remains in limbo over the future of some Grade 10 learners in the area. Two weeks since the re-opening of the new school year, some learners are said to be stuck at home as their parents cannot afford to pay for scholar transport to schools situated at nearby towns, which stand 70 to 80km away. Allegations are that Tsitsikamma Primary School was to be converted to a high school in order to accommodate the community but plans in this regard did not materialise. He was speaking at the ANC National Executive Committee Lekgotla in Boksburg, following the NEC's decision to suspend Zuma for contravening the party's constitution. Chaotic scenes have continued at the Theresa Park High School, north of Pretoria. Parents have claimed that learners of the school attend classes only twice a week, while Grade 9s attend three times due to capacity issues. The school opened last year and is situated in the same yard as another school called Amandasig High School. The school does not have teachers available for at least three subjects, with inadequate water and sanitation facilities. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to SABCreporter, Phumzile Mlangeni.

Member of Parliament, Mosebenzi Zwane has given evidence to Parliament's Powers and Privileges Committee, which is currently holding a hearing into his failure to appear in the National Assembly in May last year. At the time, Zwane had been called to apologise for undeclared benefits he received from the controversial Gupta family. Zwane says on the day in question he was attending to a family matter 

International crimes falling under the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court or ICC cannot be addressed through a passive posture or through the acceptance of continued non-co-operation of States. That was message from Prosecutor Karim Khan in his latest report to the Security Council on his office's investigations and prosecutions in relation to Council resolution 1593. This referred the situation in Darfur, Sudan to the ICC as far back as 2005. In a briefing to the Council from Chad where he had been visiting refugees who have fled the current conflict in Sudan, Khan warned that we are fast approaching a breaking point as he urged the Council to give the situation the attention it needs now more than ever. Sixty-three of the sixty-five alleged instigators who were arrested during the 2021 unrest have made their first appearance at the Durban High Court. The suspects are facing  charges in connection with the unrest and public violence that occurred in several parts of KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng. Non profit organisation, Corruption Watch has released its 2023 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) which shows that South Africa's public sector corruption perceptions have dropped 2 points since last year, with a score of 41. The country's current ranking is the lowest since 2012, with the report highlighting the inability of governments worldwide to combat corruption. Sub-Saharan Africa has shown mixed results, with most countries experiencing stagnation and poor performance. The index has found that the region's challenges stem from decades of underfunding, corruption, illicit financial flows, deepening inequality and social injustice.
