The Competition Appeal Court has thrown out the case against 23 of the 28 banks that were accused  of rigging the rand by the Competition Commission. The case was dismissed against all the South African banks appealing the matter, except Investec. The Commission suggested that the implicated banks in the alleged rand manipulation generated about a trillion rand a day between 2007 and 2013. The court has found that the commission has failed to produce sufficient evidence to implicate the institutions in wrongdoing. The Minister in the Presidency responsible for Electricity, Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa has assured South Africans that government is working hard to resolve the load shedding crisis. Speaking to members of the media about government's energy action plan, Ramokgopa acknowledged that work is underway to address the country's unstable electricity supply. South Africans have recently experienced low stages of load shedding as a result of improved generation. The Minister explains the significance of planned maintenance as a result of the bailouts from the National treasury.

The African National Congress leadership has met with party members at a cadre forum meeting held at Umjindi Town Hall in Barberton, Mpumalanga. Some of the issues discussed include the discipline of members when the party's Secretary General, Fikile Mbabula reminded them that no individual, in leadership or not, is bigger than the ANC. This comes at the time when the party's former president Jacob Zuma has endorsed the newly formed Umkhonto weSizwe Political party just as the country heads towards the 2024 general elections. Impala Bafokeng Platinum mine says all its mines in Rustenburg, in the North West, are operating in full swing except for the two Shafts that were affected by a sit in last December. Workers were expected to report for duty on Sunday night but refused to go underground until mine management withdraws suspension notices issued to some employees. The workers are also demanding that the mine pay them their pension funds and employee share scheme benefits. SABC reporter, Horisani Sithole spoke to Sakina Kamwendo 

Democratic Alliance leader, John Steenhuisen says the South African government has never cared for its people. Steenhuisen has accused President Cyril Ramaphosa of cowardice, adding that not a single person under his leadership has served prison time for their involvement in corruption.  He was speaking to members of the media following allegations of kickbacks paid to the Minister of Higher Education and Training, Dr Blade Nzimande and the South African Communist Party by service providers contracted by the National Student Financial Aid Scheme. Steenhuisen has joined calls by the Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (Outa), ActionSA and Freedom Frontg Plus, who are calling for Nzimande and NSFAS board chairperson, Ernest Khosa to be fired.

Residents of the Soul City informal settlement in Kagiso on Gauteng's West Rand say they are living in fear of illegal miners who they say are living in the community. The residents say they are scared of being murdered as they face danger on an almost daily basis. Four suspected illegal miners were killed during a shooting incident in the settlement at the weekend. Three others were injured and taken to hospital. The deceased are three Lesotho nationals and a Mozambican. Police says the victims were seen being chased and shot at, by a group of armed suspects from a nearby illegal mining site. SABC reporter, Prabashini Moodley visited the settlement under police guard and filed this report. 

Traffic officials expect traffic volumes to increase on roads nationwide as holidaymakers to return to different destinations. Limpopo roads usually carry heavy traffic during festive seasons as they are a link to SADC countries. However, traffic officials say they will be out in their numbers to ensure safer roads. The Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse is calling for the resignation of Dr Blade Nzimande, Minister of Higher Education and Training, and Ernest Khosa, chairperson of the National Student Financial Aid Scheme board. OUTA says it has evidence in the form of voice recordings to support their call. The recordings detail two meetings between Khosa and a representative of a service provider which reveal how service providers allegedly paid millions of rand in kickbacks to Nzimande and Khosa, as well as at least R1 million to the South African Communist Party (SACP). This was done in return for tenders and protection for service providers. Elvis Presslin spoke to OUTA's Investigations Manager, Rudie Heyneke 

With the festive season drawing to a close, travelers have begun returning home after a well earned break. Around 200 travelers were intercepted at the Beitbridge Border Post, outside Musina in Limpopo after they were caught trying to enter the South Africa illegally. Border Management Agency (BMA) Commissioner, Dr Michael Masiapato is at the border post monitoring the movement of holiday makers returning from Zimbabwe. Vutivi Maluleke reports.

Public service and administration minister, Noxolo Kiviet has revealed that thousands of public servants are illegally claiming social grants that are intended for citizens in financial need. The revelation was made when Kiviet made a written reply to a parliamentary question by Democratic Alliance Member of Parliament, Mimmy Gondwe, in which Kiviet revealed that over 5,800 Covid-19 social relief of distress grants and over 33,800 social grants were cancelled after it was discovered that the applicants or beneficiaries had contravened the Social Assistance Act.
