The case against 20-year-old man accused of the murder of a woman believed to be a sex worker - postponed to 31 October for a formal bail application. Sifiso Mkwanazi made a brief appearance at the Johannesburg Magistrate Court on Tuesday.  Sakina Kamwendo spoke to SABC reporter Pearl Magubane

The High Court in Johannesburg has declared Dr Mpho Phalatse as the executive mayor of the City of Johannesburg. Phalatse was ousted as the city's mayor during a motion of no confidence vote last month. The ANC's Dada Morero was subsequently elected as mayor. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to Phalatse on what her victory means for the city moving forward.

The High Court in Johannesburg has ruled that the removal of former City of Johannesburg Mayor Dr Mpho Phalatse and the subsequent election of current Mayor, Dada Morero was unlawful, unconstitutional and invalid. Phalatse had approached the court arguing that the Programming Committee that met on the 29th of September to decide on the Agenda of the Extraordinary council meeting of the next day where she was ousted - did not form a quorum. She further argued that the decision by the same committee to place the motion of no confidence vote on the agenda was therefore unlawful. The case against a man accused of the murder of four-year-old Bokgabo Poo has been postponed in Benoni Magistrate's Court, East of Johannesburg. 30 year-old Ntokozo Zikhali is facing charges of murder, rape, kidnapping, and violation of a corpse. During his initial court appearance Zikhali was nearly attacked by Bokgabo's father Irvin Ndlovu but police subdued him. This forced the abrupt adjournment of the court. Judgment is expected in the High Court in Cape Town today in the murder of eight-year-old Tazné van Wyk. The accused, 54-year-old Moyhdian Pangkaeker, was arrested in February 2020 following Tazne's disappearance near her home in Elsies River a few days earlier. The girl's body was found in a storm water pipe outside Worcester. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to Atule Joka

Members of the National assembly have six days to make a written or recorded  submission to provide information for the preliminary investigation into the conduct of President Cyril Ramaphosa. The members  who wishes to make submission will have to do the from 22 to 27 October. The Independent Panel of Experts officially started its work on Wednesday. Police in Ermelo in Mpumalanga have confiscated rifles, firearms and other objects from illegal miners in five different disused mines in the area. This comes a week after the police arrested over two hundred illegal miners mostly foreign nationals from Mozambique, Eswatini and Zimbabwe. There are allegations that some of the illegal miners have threatened to burn schools if the police do not release their arrested colleagues. Meanwhile, A video has been circulating on social media showing young school children running as a rising plume of smoke can be seen in the background. It is reported that illegal miners broke into a school and threatened learners and teachers. Jon Gericke spoke to SABC reporter Mthobisi Mkhaliphi 

The funeral mass of Father Albert Nolan is currently underway at the Lady of Mercy church in Springs East of Johannesburg. The Catholic priest, anti-apartheid activist and author has been described as an incredible theologian who was concerned about human suffering. Father Albert died at Marian House in Boksburg on Gauteng's East Rand on Monday. He was 88. Tshepo Phagane looks back at his life…. 

Mpumalanga police are investigating a case of kidnapping after the disappearance of the Nkangala Municipal Manager, Maggie Skhosana. Skhosana and her driver were allegedly kidnapped outside the gates of the municipal offices in Middleburg on Thursday. Provincial police spokesperson, Selvy Mohlala says they have found the vehicle of the manager abandoned in one of the mines in Middleburg. He says her wheelchair and handbag were still in the vehicle. He spoke to Jon Gericke

The National Assembly will  proceed with the special sitting this afternoon to consider and pass the Bill as the extended Constitutional Court deadline is December the tenth. If passed, the Bill still has to go to the NCOP for concurrence. The Bill seeks to give independent candidates the right to contest the provincial and national elections. Singh says it took the executive 18 months before submitting the Bill to Parliament -  six months before the first Constitutional Court deadline of June 2022.
