The Independent Panel of legal experts appointed to assess whether there are sufficient grounds for the National Assembly to impeach President Cyril Ramaphosa over the Phala Phala debacle commences with its task today. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to SABC reporter, Zalene Merrington 

 Eskom CEO Andre De Ruyter says the power utility is still dealing with challenges over the quality of coal that they receive. De Ruyter together with his Chief Operating Officer, Jan Oberholzer and the SIU partnering with the Hawks are at the Standing Committee on Public Accounts briefing members on parliament on recent challenges at Eskom. They are also giving updates on investigations that are still ongoing which have been brought before law enforcement agencies. De Ruyter had this to say when it comes to questions over how they are best dealing with the issue of bad quality coal. In the same clip, he is followed by his COO, Jan Oberholzer speaking on the recent fire at Kusile and the life expansion project at the Kuberg nuclear power station. 

Pietermaritzburg High Court Judge, Piet Koen has conceded that his continued involvement as presiding judge in the arms deal trial against former president Jacob Zuma needs in the interest of justice to be addressed. Judge Koen also noted the possible injustice of continuing with the trial while the former president seeks a constitutional ruling in relation to pending application for the recusal of State Prosecutor, Advocate Billy Downer. Reading his judgement on Wednesday, Judge Koen postponed the continuation of the trial to the 30th of January 2023.

The family of an 82-year-old woman that was allegedly raped and murdered over the weekend in Richmond in the Northern Cape is still reeling in shock. This as a 19 year old man is expected to appear before the local Magistrate's court today. The body of 82-year-old Sophia Miles was discovered by neighbours on Monday. The 35-year-old man who was arrested last week Friday for allegedly killing a  German tourist, has appeared at the Kabokweni Magistrate court today. Joseph Nyalungu is facing charges of murder, attempted murder and attempted hijacking.  He has been remanded in custody until 28th October for bail application. The department of Correctional Services says following the escape of SEVEN detainees from the Grahamstown Correctional Facility on Tuesday, investigations are continuing to ensure the re-arrest of the 6 still at large. The department says the seven are facing a range of charges including rhino poaching and attempted murder.  It is alleged that at 04:00 vam on Tuesday morning, an officer arrived for work at the facility and became suspicious when she noticed that the light was on in one of the holding units. The case against a 21-year-old accused of the murder of a woman believed to be a sex worker, has been postponed to the 25th of October. The man appeared before the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court on Tuesday where the state admitted to still not having conducted an identity parade. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to our reporter Pearl Magubane

Community members of Soshanguve in Tshwane have marched in protest at the Pretoria North Magistrate's Court where a 27-year old man will apply for bail in connection with the rape of a two year old girl in Soshanguve. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to SABC reporter, Phumzile Mlangeni.

Residents of Richmond in the Northern Cape are holding a March at the local magistrate's court following the brutal rape and murder of an 82-year-old woman in the town over the weekend. The victim was found in her home and two people have been brought in for questioning. Sakina Kamwendo spoe to the victim's Grand-daughter, Thembisa Mkontwana.

Wage negotiations between Transnet and unions are still ongoing.  Transport union SATAWU has dismissed news reports over the weekend that the union consulted  and tried to persuade its members to  consider the recent offer by Transnet of 6%.  SATAWU says the strike is still on.
