ONE South Africa Movement leader, Mmusi Maimane is currently leading a community march in the Siyathemba local municipality in Prieska in the Northern Cape province. This as the movement and its local affiliates, call for the African National Congress to stop what they call the hijacking of power from the people though the back door. Among the marchers is the Siyathemba Commuity Movement which took control of the municipality in last year's local government election after winning 40% of the vote. The case against Economic Freedom Fighters leaders, Julius Malema and co-accused Dr Mbuyiseni Ndlozi has been postponed to 3 June 2022 by the Randburg Magistrates Court. Malema and Ndlozi are charged with assaulting a police officer Lt-Col Johannes Jacobus Venter at Winnie Madikizela-Mandela's funeral in the year 2018. Western Cape High Court Judge President John Hlophe's application to review and set aside the decision of the Judicial Service Commission for his impeachment by parliament has been dismissed  by the South Gauteng High Court. This comes after the Judicial Services Commission resolved last August, by a majority of eight members against four, to endorse the decision of the Judicial Conduct Tribunal that Hlophe should face impeachment by parliament for committing gross misconduct. This follows a complaint by judges of the Constitutional Court that Hlophe had attempted to  influence Justices Chris Jafta and  Bess Nkabinde in 2008 in a matter involving former president Jacob Zuma. Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane is expected to lay criminal charges against self-described legal commentator, Ismail Abramjee and what she calls his 'accomplices', at the Brooklyn police station in Pretoria. The charges relate to the text message Abramjee sent to the lead senior counsel for the Speaker of the National Assembly and the chair of the Section 194 Committee. They are both parties in the Public Protector's postponed application concerning the Section 194 process in the Western Cape High Court. The Tourism Business Council of South Africa (TBCSA) is calling on the eThekwini Municipality and marketing bodies in KwaZulu-Natal to make more money available to market Durban as an attractive tourist destination. This comes after the COVID-19 pandemic, the July 2021 unrest and the recent devastating floods dealt a severe blow to the city's economy.Today marks the final day of the Indaba which is currently underway at the Durban International Convention Centre. The conference has returned following a two year break as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, with a staggering 45000 delegates from across the continent. The ANC elective conference of the Eastern Cape is set to continue this weekend as planned despite last minute glitches. The provincial Task Team of the party met virtually yesterday with the national executive committee of the ANC in order to discuss amongst other issues the state of readiness of the much anticipated conference. This raised eyebrows that another postponement may be imminent as the issue of the eligibility of voting delegates seemed to have yet to be resolved. The Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse has continued its call for government to extent the validity of driver's licence cards from five to 10 years. This as today marks the deadline for motorists to renew their expired driving licence cards. The deadline applies to all driving licences, temporary driving permits and professional driving permit and learner's licences which expired between March 2020 and August 31, 202. The ANC in the Eastern Cape has written to its mother body at Luthuli House in Johannesburg requesting an urgent virtual meeting over the state of readiness for the upcoming provincial elective conference, among other issues. The party's provincial task team coordinator, Lulama Ngcukaitobi has tabled several issues that need an urgent attention of the the ANC's NEC ahead of the weekend's conference. These include the eligibility of voting delegates together with investigations into branches such as Dr WB Rubusana and Chris Hani. The office of the Auditor General has informed Parliament's Standing Committee on Public Accounts that it informed the Road Accident Fund that the standard of auditing at the entity is not yet recognised, but RAF went ahead and used it anyway. The AG has told SCOPA that this has resulted in litigation where RAF is disputing the disclaimer opinion it has received.
