Several officials have been arrested at Lebombo Border Post. Law enforcement agency, the Hawks arrested eight officials for alleged corruption at the Border Post. Former President FW De Klerk has died in Cape Town at the age of 85-years-old. His foundation says De Klerk died peacefully this morning at home in Frennaye. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to Chairperson of the FW De Klerk Foundation, Dave Steward 

The Ethiopian community in South Africa remains cautiously optimistic that a solution will be found that will end the conflict in the Tigray region. More than 900-thousand people face famine in the north of the country as the de facto humanitarian blockade remains in place. The year long conflict between the government of Ethiopia and the Tigray people Liberation Front and its affiliate groups has been running for over a year. This as the Human Rights Watch says the Ethiopian government’s blocking of aid and essential services, with health facilities in Tigray region destroyed, is preventing survivors of sexual violence from obtaining essential post-rape care. The Hawks are investigating the theft of drugs worth 200 million rand from their offices in Port Shepstone, KwaZulu Natal, over the weekend. At least 540 kilograms of cocaine with a street value of about R200m, were stolen from the building  were stolen. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to Hawks spokesperson Brigadier Nomthandazo Mbambo

Coalition are the buzz word after the recent local government elections after no party managed to get an outright majority in eight municipalities including the three metro's in Gauteng. To pave the way for coalition governance most of the political parties have set out strict non-negotiable coalition conditions as well as teams to negotiate the coalitions to ensure the future working environments run smoothly. The ANC in the Northern Cape has called for a recount of 24 ballots from the Siyancuma Municipality in a ward that the party lost to an independent candidate. The ballots were unstamped and previously thought to be spoilt. But the ANC lodged a dispute and the IEC is in Douglas for the recount. The municipality is currently one of the ten hung councils in the province. Independent candidate, Benjamin Makabe, has questioned the recount. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to SABC reporter Ulrich Hendriks in the Northern Cape 

An overall majority of 95 percent of voters believed that the 2021 local government elections were free and fair. This is according to the  preliminary findings of the Human Sciences Research Council's Election Satisfaction Survey presented at the national results operations centre in Pretoria on Wednesday. The survey, which interviewed over twelve thousand voters, also revealed that a majority of people with special needs indicated that voting procedures considered the needs of the elderly, persons with disabilities, the partially sighted and blind, pregnant women and women with babies. Political parties continue to monitor  as the results of South Africa's sixth Local Government elections are steadily coming in at the IEC Results Operations Centre in Pretoria this morning. The IEC says that everything is on track to deliver the local government elections on the 1st of November. Approximately 26 million South Africans are eligible to vote in the polls, with over 95 thousand candidates running to capture about 10-thousand-500 seats in the country's 257 municipalities.
