The Komani-based Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality in the Eastern Cape has sought to clarify the controversy surrounding its recently opened multi-million-rand stadium and sports field in Lesseyton. Images of the official opening of the facility on the municipality's Facebook page have sparked public outrage. The social media posting with pictures of the opening has since been deleted. DA leader John Steenhuisen says the party will not apologise or remove the posters put up in Phoenix in north of Durban. The DA in KwaZulu-Natal has come under fire on social media the controversial posters. The posters, placed on top of each other, read: "The ANC called you racists" and "The DA calls you heroes." The party is being accused of fueling racial divisions in the community of black and Indian residents. At the height of the unrest that ravaged parts of KZN and Gauteng in July, the area was mired in racial tensions that resulted in the deaths of 36 people. The killings sparked a countrywide outcry over racism in the area. Steenhuisen was engaging journalists during the parties water interruptions picket outside Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand. Workers at the Durban & Coastal Mental Health facility in the Durban suburb of Sherwood, have prevented management from entering the premises. The workers workers downed tools on Tuesday, calling for the board to step down. On placards protesting workers have urged government to step in at the facility. The IEC says it is unlikely that it will be able to add the names of 15 parties whose names are omitted from the local government elections ballot paper. These parties, which include Herman Mashaba's ActionSA did not, according to the Electoral Commission, provide an abbreviated name or acronym when registering their parties with the institution and thus will only have their logo and names of the ward candidate featured on the November 1 ballot paper. Friday, 1st of October, is the last day for the public to make submissions on who they think the next Chief Justice should be. This, as the term of the incumbent, Mogoeng Mogoeng, ends in just 10 days. Despite the fact that President Cyril Ramaphosa has the Constitutional prerogative to pick the next Chief Justice -- he has invited the public to submit their nominations by close of business on Friday. New incumbent Finance Minister, Enoch Godongwana says it'll take public and private sector investment to achieve an infrastructure-led economic recovery. Godongwana says government will need to remove any perceived barriers to investment, while formulating instruments through which the private sector can invest in public infrastructure. The Justice Department has invited comments regarding the revised Regulations aimed at providing financial assistance to declared Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) victims and their relatives and dependents. The new regulations will be implemented for a period of 13 years starting next year. The department has also invited persons TRC identified victims to apply for Basic and Higher Education Study Assistance programmes. Some activists who have been assisting TRC victims say they are in the dark about these developments and have raised concerns about the lack of engagement by government.
