Amabhaca King , Madzikane Diko says that he didn't consult his wife Khusela Diko, who is the spokesperson to president Cyril Ramaphosa when bidding for the Gauteng PPE tender. He says he only informed his wife after he was awarded the tender, and she then expressed discomfort in the matter. He also says that he doesn't regret bidding for the tender. The South African Local Government Association (Salga) in KZN is calling for a review in municipal funding models. Currently urban municipalities with good revenue base (collection) get more funding (in the form of equitable share and infrastructure grants) from the National Treasury compared to rural municipalities who cannot collect rates. This according to rural municipalities exacerbates a gap between urban and rural communities and also makes it difficult for rural municipalities to deal with backlog in the provision of service delivery. KwaZulu-Natal Education MEC, Kwazi Mshengu, says officials - implicated in corrupt activities over a surplus supply of sanitary towels at schools - have been suspended. Basic Education Minister, Angie Motshekga, ordered the forensic investigation in 2018 after two teacher unions raised red flags that over 100-million rand was spent on the supply of sanitary towels. Mshengu was providing a report of the provincial forensic investigation - during a media briefing in Durban. Mshengu also says that he doesn't understand why the sanitary pads were procured for grade 4s as well. According to him, grade 4 learners dont need sanitary towels.

Tribute continue to pour in for Struggle stalwart and the last surviving Rivonia Trialist Andrew Mlangeni. This after the struggle veteran passed away overnight at the age of 95. He was admitted to 1 Military Hospital in Pretoria last night following an abdominal complaint. Mlangeni was the last surviving Rivonia Trialist - who spent more than 20 years on Robben Island after his conviction at the Treason Trial in 1964.
