Head of AfriForum's Private Prosecution Unit, Advocate Gerrie Nel has been appointed as the Meyiwa family's advocate in the murder investigation into the death of former goalkeeper and captain of Bafana Bafana, Senzo Meyiwa. AfriForum says they took the case as it's their duty to prevent the criminal justice system from collapsing. Meyiwa was shot and killed in a house in Vosloorus five years ago at the age of 27, and no prosecution has been instituted by the National Prosecuting Authority to date.

Herman Mashaba has announced his resignation as the Mayor of Johannesburg - and as a member of the Democratic Alliance. It follows the election of Helen Zille as the party's Federal Council Chairperson yesterday. Mashaba has previously indicated that he would call it quits, should - what he calls - the 'right wing aligned DA faction' win. He took office as the Johannesburg Mayor in 2016. Speaking during a media briefing in Johannesburg, Mashaba says he is deeply concerned about the politics of the Democratic Alliance. He says he will cease serving as Mayor from the 27th of November. Convicted child rapist Nicholas Ninow has told the North Gauteng High Court that he was 13 when he started using drugs and that he was on anti-depression medication his whole life. Ninow is testifying - today as the court begins with pre-sentencing proceedings. Ninow was found guilty of raping a seven-year old girl in the toilet cubicle at a Dros Restaurant in Pretoria in September last year. The court rejected is version that he acted impulsively when he raped the child. His legal team will have to prove substantial and compelling circumstances on why the court should deviate from the prescribed minimum sentence of life in prison. Ninow says life in prison has been very tough on him and he has been using drugs to numb his pain. Eskom has announced that it will be to implementing stage two rotational load-shedding from 09:00 until 23:00. The power utility says this is in order to protect the power system from a total collapse. In a statement, Eskom says the power supply constraint is caused by five generating units that are unavailable due to boiler tube leaks among other things. The 2019 Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to Ethiopian Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed. He is the 100th winner of the prize - which was awarded for his efforts to achieve peace and international cooperation. Ethiopia reached a peace deal with Eritrea last year, ending a 20-year military stalemate following their 1998-2000 border war. A total of 301 candidates had been nominated for the prestigious award. Chairperson of Sekunjalo Investment Holdings, Dr Iqbal Survé says the recent raids at his offices are aimed at intimidating him and discrediting his companies, because certain politicians say he cannot “control” his journalists. Dr Iqbal Survé says there is nothing untoward in the business of Sekunjalo Investment Holdings and the raid was uncalled for. He says he has been put under enormous pressure by Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan over the past few months. The Constitutional Court has ruled that Stellenbosch University's language policy which stipulates using English and Afrikaans inter-changeably as mediums of instruction is constitutionally justifiable. The former Afrikaans university says the aim of its language policy is to ensure equal access, multilingualism and integration. South African Airways (SAA) says it believes that it had in the past been infiltrated by an international crime syndicate which looted hundreds of millions of rands through corrupt tenders in the procurement of aircraft parts. SAA says some of this dates as far back as 2015/ 2016 . The airline says it has launched an investigation to look into whether it had been supplied with dodgy parts that failed to meet industry standards. Business owners in Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality say they may have to shut their doors as a result of the persistent drought. Companies in the metro say they would be forced to shed thousands jobs leaving breadwinners without their sources of income. The municipality is experiencing a devastating drought as five of its dams run critically low. The Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber has accused the municipality of failing to implement water saving measures or bring in additional water supply to communities. An investigation looking into whether there was nothing irregular in the final Fellowship of the College of Surgeons (FCS) exam will be launched. This comes after only fifteen of the 46 candidates from eight universities who sat for the FCS exams passed.
