South Africa's population continues to grow significantly. Stats SA has estimated the 2019 mid-year population at 58.78 million, in comparison to 2018's 57.73 million population estimations. The Statistician-General Risenga Maluleke has today released the 2019 Mid-year population estimates. The report provides estimates on the population of South Africa and includes current indicators of fertility, mortality and migration among others. Gauteng remains the largest share of the population, with approximately 15.2 million people (25.8%) living in this province, while Northern Cape remains the province with the smallest share of the population of approximately 1.26 million people (2.2%).
