Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi is today expected to unveil far-reaching proposals aimed at bringing about universal health coverage in the country. Motsoaledi is set to spell out details of the National Health Insurance Bill and the Medical Schemes Amendment Bill at a media briefing in Pretoria. On the back drop of that, A group of general practitioners tasked with overseeing the National Health Insurance Pilot project at the Vhembe district in Limpopo, say the pilot phase has collapsed. This follows the termination of their contracts for the first phase of the NHI project. MEC of Health Phophi Ramathuba says the general practitioners were employed by the national Health Department and the Foundation for Professional Development, which no longer has funds for their program. She says the NHI project has not collapsed. Katlego Nyoni compiled this report.

The ANC has confirmed Professor Job Mokgoro as the new premier of the North West rovince. This comes after a special NEC meeting as well as an NWC meeting this past week. Supra Mahumapelo resigned from the position last month. 70-year old Mokgoro was the North West Director-General. ANC Secretary-General Ace Magashule made the announcement.

Today marks World Refugee Day. The United Nations says more than 60 million people have been forced to leave their countries due to war, fear of persecution and natural disasters. The UN says those displaced are mostly from poor countries. It has urged people of the world to treat refugees with compassion. My colleague Anita Visser spoke to Darius Kwigomba from the Democratic Republic of Congo, who now has official refugee status. He came to South Africa in the year 2000.

A website and a Facebook page have been launched to assist former mine workers and their dependents who may be entitled to compensation if they worked at one of the six gold mining companies that have made provisions for a trust to pay workers who contracted silicosis and/ or TB at work. The historic settlement was made last month after 3 years of extensive negotiations. The gold mine companies in question are; African Rainbow Minerals, Anglo American, Anglo Gold Ashanti , Gold Fields Harmony and Sibanye -stillwater. Richard Spoor, who is one of the attorney's representing the affected former mine workers, spoke to Sakina Kamwendo.

Service delivery protests have spilled over to neighbouring areas of Thembalethu in George (in the Southern Cape). Residents of Lawaaikamp, Borcherds and Parkdene have joined in on the action, and are being kept at bay by police. Earlier, two trucks were set alight and looted on the N2 between the Garden Route Mall and Pacaltsdorp. The road remains closed to traffic. Our reporter in Cape Town, Tanya Krause is on the story.

The embattled South African Weather Services has failed to appear before the Environmental Committee to explain the appointment of Julia Mphafudi as Executive of Corporate and Regulatory Services. This follows an anonymous tip-off about alleged irregulaties. 18 months ago former CEO Linda Makuleni was fired, leaving behind allegations of corruption and tender fraud in the organisation. Fears that the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission will not be able to run free and fair elections next month are mounting. Candidates who should have received the voters' roll allegedly still don't have access to it. The country's Electoral Commission says it is facing administrative challenges in availing it to candidates as required by law. But it says the election will go ahead despite any grievances parties may have.

Eastern Cape ANC chairman Oscar Mabuyane has dismissed the Sbu Ndebele Report as flawed. In the report, Ndebele, calls for the party to set aside the outcome of the conference. The report was the subject of a hearing at the South Gauteng High Court yesterday. Mabuyane says only a court of law will decide on what is right.

The Information Regulator SA has requested an urgent meeting with Liberty Holdings CEO David Munro, to understand how its data became compromised. The company's system was hacked and those responsible are demanding a ransom. The regulator has requested information about the extent and contents of the data breach, as well as the interim measures put in place to prevent further breaches. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to the Chairperson of the South African Information Regulator, Advocate Pansy Tlakula.

Workers at airline SA Express may not get paid come month end. Trade union Fedusa is calling on government to intervene and provide funding to the state-owned entity. The company was grounded last month after failing to comply with safety regulations. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to SA Express spokesperson Refilwe Masemola and asked if the c ompany had issued notices to workers about the possibility that they may not receive their salaries.
