Queues are getting longer at VBS Mutual Bank in Thohoyandou in Limpopo as clients withdraw their money and close their accounts. The mutual bank was placed under curatorship by the SA Reserve Bank in March following reports that it was facing a liquidity crisis. This after Treasury instructed municipalities to stop investing with the bank. A number of councils withdrew more than R1 billion from the bank since the order issued was last year. The bank first rose to prominence when it loaned former president Jacob Zuma R7.8 million in 2016 to repay state money improperly spent on his private home. Our reporter Shibu Mamokgere is at bank.

The ANC's National Executive Committee is meeting today at the St Georges Hotel in Irene outside Pretoria to discuss burning issues plaguing the ruling party. Top of the agenda will be issues around North West, Kwa-Zulu Natal, Free State and Gauteng's upcoming elective conference. Meanwhile, the Johannesburg High Court is expected to hear a case by four ANC members from Eastern Cape who want to compel the NEC to take a clear stand about a report that called for last year's Provincial Conference to be nullified. A KwaZulu-Natal minority rights group is considering opening a case against EFF leader Julius Malema for his statement that Indians are racist. Malema was speaking during his party's Youth Day commemoration event in Klerksdorp in the North West Province this past weekend. Chairperson of the South African Minority Rights Equality Movement (samrem), Daleep Lutchman, says they will be meeting soon to decide what charges to press against Malema for what they say is his use of an apartheid system of classifying people by race. Police are combing the scene of a cash-in-transit-heist on Jakes Gerwel Drive near Philippi on the Cape Flats. Two G4S cash vans have been targeted in the latest heist on the corner of Weltreveden and Turfhall Roads in Cape Town. The road has been closed where a large police presence is visible. More than 150 cash-in-transit heists have taken place this year. National Police Commissioner Kehla Sitole last week briefed Parliament on a five-point plan to deal with the issue. Power utility Eskom says wage talks with trade unions will resume tomorrow. The company had told unions that it could not afford to increase the income of workers at all because it is cash strapped. But now it has changed its tune after a meeting with trade unions Numsa, NUM and Solidarity, which Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan facilitated on Friday. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to Eskom's Khulu Phasiwe.

Although Bafana Bafana did not qualify for this world tournament; a few South Africans are there anyway having the time of their life. The 2018 World Cup kicked off yesterday with Russia launching the World Cup by thrashing Saudi Arabia 5-0 in the tournament's opening match. This has been called the best world cup opening game. Tempers have flared during the cross examination of former SABC COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng at the CCMA where he is challenging his dismissal. Motsoeneng told the SABC's legal representative Anton Myburg SC, that he does not like his attitude towards him. The hearing had to be adjourned briefly to allow the parties to calm down. Earlier Motsoeneng questioned the reasons for his dismissal, saying he thinks there was a sinister motive for the action against him. Our reporter Angela Bolowana is attending the hearing.

Police have been combing a crime scene for clues following the killing of two people at a mosque in Malmesbury, Cape Town, during the early hours of this morning. Police were called out to a local mosque and found two people stabbed to death and several injured. The suspect, armed with a knife, was still on the scene. He charged at the police who tried to persuade him to hand himself over. They then shot and killed him when he failed to cooperate with them. Our reporter Carmel Roberts is on this story.

Disgruntled workers belonging to the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) and the National Union of Metalworkers (Numsa) are today picketing at Eskom's Sunninghill head offices in Johannesburg. Wage negotiations between the financially distressed power utility and labour unions deadlocked resulting in the rolling out of mass action by the NUM and Numsa. Eskom's spokesperson Khulu Phasiwe tweeted this morning that the power supply to Eskom's head office in Suninghill had "mysteriously" been cut off. The suspended SARS Commissioner Tom Moyane's lawyers are preparing for legal battle against President Cyril Ramaphosa. This after Ramaphosa failed to meet yet another deadline to submit an affidavit detailing disciplinary charges against Moyane. President Ramaphosa's lawyers undertook to submit his affidavit substantiating the allegations of misconduct against Moyane by June 8th but failed to meet the deadline. The second one on was Wednesday at five o'clock and the third one at twelve midnight. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to Moyane's Lawyer, Eric Mabuza.
