The Special Investigating Unit is determined to clamp down on these officials. Some of them later emerge in other provinces where they are appointed to government departments or public entities. April 25, 2018SATAWU and NUMSA call for Transport Minister's intervention as bus strike continuesThe Transport and Allied Workers Union (SATAWU) and the National Union of Metal Workers of South Africa (NUMSA), want a meeting with Transport Minister Blade Nzimande to discuss the deadlock with employers over a wage increase. The workers have been striking for a week now leaving commuters stranded, forcing them to use taxis which are expensive for many of them. The unions have come down from a demand of 12% wage increase to a now revised 9.5 percent increase in the first year and 8.5 percent in the second, but employers are digging in their heels with an offer of 9 percent and 8 percent for that period. April 25, 2018SAFTU takes to the streets over the proposed minimum wageThousands of members affiliated to labour federation SAFTU are marching across the country to highlight their dissatisfaction with government's proposed 20-rand per hour minimum wage and amendments to the labour laws. The marchers have been making their way through the streets of major cities such as Johannesburg, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth and Bloemfontein and Durban amongst others.
