The North West Health Department has been placed under administration. Cabinet has announced that a team from Treasury and the National Health Department will be sent to the province to assist as the state of the department deteriorates with poor service delivery issues being worsened by the current workers' strike.

ICASA says from now on consumers will no longer be billed out of data bundle rates. It also says consumers will be allowed to carry over their data to the next month. Data will no longer expire and be forfeited if not used up at the end of 30 days.
This as high cost of data & expiry of data bundles and out-of-bundle business rules applied by network service providers is on the spotlight today.

Senior public servants who often resign to avoid consequences when facing corruption and maladministration charges, will now find it hard to evade prosecution. The Special Investigating Unit is determined to clamp down on these officials. Some of them later emerge in other provinces where they are appointed to government departments or public entities. This emerged during a consultative meeting between the SIU and the Gauteng provincial government in which they pledge to work together to fight corruption, malpractice and maladministration. The Transport and Allied Workers Union (SATAWU) and the National Union of Metal Workers of South Africa (NUMSA), want a meeting with Transport Minister Blade Nzimande to discuss the deadlock with employers over a wage increase. The workers have been striking for a week now leaving commuters stranded, forcing them to use taxis which are expensive for many of them. The unions have come down from a demand of 12% wage increase to a now revised 9.5 percent increase in the first year and 8.5 percent in the second, but employers are digging in their heels with an offer of 9 percent and 8 percent for that period. The parties failed to reach a resolution during a meeting last night. SATAWU's Zanele Sabela spoke to Sakina Kamwendo.

Thousands of members affiliated to labour federation SAFTU are marching across the country to highlight their dissatisfaction with government's proposed 20-rand per hour minimum wage and amendments to the labour laws. The marchers have been making their way through the streets of major cities such as Johannesburg, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth and Bloemfontein and Durban amongst others. The EFF and Right2Know have also expressed solidarity with the march, encouraging members to join the march. We started by speaking to our reporter in Johannesburg Amina Accram.

Three of the four ANC regional structures in the North West say premier Supra Mahumapelo should not resign because he has done an excellent in his position as leader of government in the province. The organisation is currently briefing the media after violent protests broke out last week across the province, with communities calling on Mahumapelo to leave office for poor performance. Dr Kenneth Kaunda regional secretary, Lopang Rothman says Mahumapelo is being targeted because he has been fighting corruption.

The Helen Suzman Foundation launched the court challenge in 2013 after Advocate Jeremy Gauntlett SC failed to make it onto the list of recommended candidates for a position as a judge in the Western Cape High Court.

The foundation says the interviews for judges are to be appointed by the president take place in public, however, the discussions happen in secret. The JSC consists of judges, members of Parliament, legal experts and government officials.

The Public Servants Association of South Africa, which represents more than 230 000 public service workers is threatening a nationwide shut down of government departments if the state fails to come back to the negotiating table by 3pm this afternoon. This follows the request for more time for further consultation made by the Public Service and Administration department. Menawhile, Numsa has called on all its members in the auto sector, steel-making, metals and engineering companies to join tomorrow's national strike action by SAFTU

The District Six Working Committee says it is seeking a court interdict against the state for failing to provide adequate restitution since being forcibly removed from the area. The committee which represents over two-thousand families says they want to know when those who opted for financial compensation will be paid, and specific timelines for land restoration.

The high court in Pretoria has heard that the granting of an Australian company a licence to mine at Xolobeni in the Eastern Cape without the consent of the villagers would result in economic displacement for about 600 people.
Xolobeni villagers are seeking declaratory relief to prohibit the Mineral Resources department from granting the company a licence to mine without the consent of the community.
