The Eastern Cape Aids Council and the NGO responsible for HIV screening in schools, Khethimpilo have refuted allegations that they breached HIV/AIDS testing guidelines or infringed on the rights of pupils during an HIV screening of pupils in Alfonso Arries Primary School in Port Elizabeth. This emerged during a meeting attended by the council, Khethimpilo, the Basic Department of Education and parents at the school following an outcry by parents claiming there was neither parental consent nor counselling during the HIV screening. Parent also allege the status of some children who tested positive was made public during the HIV screening. Police in Mpumalanga have launched a manhunt for a suspect, who allegedly shot and killed two people at Kabokweniar White River. neThe suspect allegedly shot his wife and mother-in-law. The National Education Department is expected to meet with Khethimpilo, a non-governmental organisation, which has been accused of conducting HIV tests on primary school learners in Port Elizabeth. Parents of children are fuming following the HIV testing without their consent. Some parents allege some of the children tested positive and the results were given in front of the other learners. The angry parents say there was no counselling provided for the children. SABC reporter, Mcebisi Ngqina visited the community. The PAC struggle veteran Kenny Motsamai's parole has been revoked. Mootsamai is said to have failed to adhere to his parole conditions. Early last month, there was confusion about the rearrest of Motsamai. This is after he served just over 27 years behind bars as a political prisoner. The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) has sent legal officers and investigators to probe the reported cases of sexual exploitation and abuse by its members serving as United Nations peacekeepers in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This comes after five new cases of sexual exploitation and abuse are being investigated against five members of the South African National Defense Force serving as UN peacekeepers in the DRC. The new allegations surfaced just a month after four similar cases, which included three of sexual exploitation, were reported against South African troops serving in the MONUSCO mission bringing the total number in 2018 to 9. The incidents are said to have taken place between 2014 and 2016 in North and South Kivu in the country's east. The Basic education department says it has made great strides in putting sanitation in schools despite budgetary challenges. The department says a seven Billion rand budget for infrastructure is set aside annually however they need an extra three Billion rands to eradicate pit toilets in schools.
