The families of the Esidimeni patients together with government have reached an agreement on the Alternative Dispute Resolution process. This follows recommendations by the Health Ombud that the Minister of Health and the Premier must facilitate an Alternative Dispute Resolution process with all families affected. South Africans who work overseas could be taxed locally for foreign earnings from 2019. Treasury plans to repeal a tax exemption on income earned by South Africans working overseas and has issued two draft bills. The public has until August 18 to comment on the bills, before Treasury and the SA Revenue Service introduce them to Parliament. Police have been deployed to Hout Bay in the Cape Peninsula where residents have set alight two houses belonging to community leaders in Imizamo Yethu. The violence erupted yesterday afternoon forcing the closure of several roads and intersections in the area. Mlamli Maneli reports.

Reserve Bank Governor Lesetja Kganyogo has warned that the reduction in interest rates will not provide a significant stimulus for economic growth. Kganyago says it's unclear where the drivers of growth will come from in the absence of credible structural policy initiatives to reduce uncertainty. Abahlali BaseMjondolo President Sibusiso Zikode spent half a day on Wednesday testifying before the Moerane Commission in Durban. He revealed that at least five people from his organisation have been killed since 2009. Zikode alleges that all the killings of their members are politically motivated. This has been the evidence of an investigator of the Special Investigations Unit in the disciplinary hearing of a senior Public Works official in Durban. Jayshree Pardesi has pleaded not guilty to charges of misconduct. Criminal charges have been laid against others and civil proceedings have been instituted to recover money spent on the project.
