Opposition parties say National Assembly Speaker Baleka Mbete should recuse herself from presiding over the debate and vote of no confidence in President Jacob Zuma because she is biased. Several opposition parties - including the DA, EFF, ACDP,COPE and UDM - met in Pretoria yesterday to discuss several issues in the political sphere including the debate and vote on the motion of no confidence scheduled for the 8th of August.

The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC)'s Interim Board is the process of reviewing its 2004 Editorial Policy. This follows a change in Policy which was implemented in 2016 by the former COO of the corporation Hlaudi Motsoeneng, which was later rejected by the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA).

The DA is going after the Gupta family following allegations of corruption at a dairy farm in Vrede in the Free State. DA leader Mmusi Maimane paid an oversight visit to the farm on Wednesday accompanied by those who were supposed to be the beneficiaries. SACP General Secretary, Blade Nzimande, has warned that the ANC could be facing defeat in the 2019 national elections if strong action isn't taken against corruption and state capture. Nzimande yesterday addressed delegates at the start of the week-long SACP Congress currently underway in Boksburg on Gauteng's East Rand. The SACP leadership announced that it had barred President Jacob Zuma from addressing the congress. Instead Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa will address them on Wednesday.
