The sale of all live chickens has been banned across the country. The Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has put the suspension after avian influenza was detected in a farm in Mpumalanga last week. All affected birds in that farm have since been euthanized. Three weeks ago there was a highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreak in Zimbabwe which led to South Africa suspending all trade in chickens from Zimbabwe. The Democratic Alliance's Federal Council meeting has resolved to work towards ensuring that the ANC is removed from power in the 2019 general elections.
