This follows yesterday's announcement by management that they will raise tuition and accommodation fees by eight percent. Wits management says the increase is in line with the recommendations made by government a couple of months ago. Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande said in September that individual universities should determine their fee increases for next year, but he set a cap of eight percent. Noluvo Swelindawo's family believes her murder has something to do with her lesbian lifestyle. Swelidawo's body was discovered with a gunshot wound near the N2 highway. Non-government organisations in the area have condemned the incident saying it is sad that this happened during the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children campaign. According to statistics from the Greater Rape Intervention Programme (GRIP) last year they recorded over 3000 of gender based violence. GRIP recorded more than 1500 rape and over 1700 domestic violence cases in the 10 police stations, 8 government hospitals and five courtrooms they operate in.
