More than half of government health depots and health institutions do not record the medication they dispense to patients or even take the names of the patients they are serving. This is according to Auditor- General Kimi Makwetu's latest audit report on the Department of Health's performance and management of pharmaceuticals. The report also found that some of these health departments overspent on their budgets because they base their budgets on old information instead of doing an actual healthcare needs analysis of citizens. The Department of health says they acknowledge the findings, but a lot has since changed. Pubic Enterprises Minister Lynne Brown has appointed Matshela Koko as acting chief executive of power utility Eskom. Koko, who is in charge of power generation and has worked at Eskom since 1996. He replaces Brain Molefe who resigned as group chief executive after he was implicated in the former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela's "State of Capture" report. Members of parliament have asked the board and management of the Passenger Rail Agency, Prasa, what they are doing to fix the entity's finances. Prasa has been identified by the Auditor General as the worst performing entity with irregular, fruitless and wasteful expenditure to the tune of 14 billion rand. The board and management of PRASA were appearing before Parliament's standing committee on public accounts (SCOPA) to account for the losses. The Department of Water and Sanitation says dam levels are still a concern across the country despite the recent rainfall. The department has appealed to all South Africans to continue to use water sparingly, and adhere to water restriction measures. Meanwhile, the South African Weather Services has warned that heatwave conditions will persist in some parts of the country until the weekend. Equal Education is taking Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga to court for failing to for failing to provide basic amenities to school. Tuesday was the deadline for the Department of Basic Education to meet the norms and standards for school infrastructure, however, only a few of the nine provincial departments met the set standards. The brutal killing of the "Diamonds" gang boss from Muvhango, outside Vanderbijlpark, has led to revenge killings between two rival gangs. The bloodied body of the young gang boss was found hacked to death by members of rival gang "Mopheme" last month. The killing emanates from an ongoing war between the two gangs in a fight for control of traditional initiation schools in the Vaal area. It's understood that two members from the "Mopheme" gang were also stabbed and hacked to death after the killing of the "diamonds" gang boss. The Former Editor of the Citizen, Steve Motale says he will take his employer to court because he was dismissed without a disciplinary hearing. The ANC national executive committee has re-affirmed it's support for president Jacob Zuma's leadership. This is after the party's top leadership highest decision making body between conferences rejected calls by some within the leadership that President Zuma consider stepping down. The discussion on president Zuma's fate led to the party's three day meeting being extended by one day as more NEC members were afforded an opportunity to make an input on the motion of no confidence.
