The Constitutional Court will this morning hand down its much-anticipated decision in an affirmative action case lodged, for the first time ever, by a previously disadvantaged group. A group of coloured employees say they were unfairly overlooked for promotion within the Western Cape Department of Correctional Services because of the colour of their skin. African Union Heads of State will decide this week whether to expand the mandate of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in South Sudan. Rwanda's Foreign Affairs Minister Louise Mushikiwabo says the latest fighting in South Sudan - the world's newest nation - will be given priority when African Presidents meet in Kigali. The mandate of United Nations Mission for South Sudan will expire at the end of this month, but there are proposals for an extension until the end of August and also the expansion of the troops' mandate to include combat. The Constitutional Court will hand down judgment on Thursday on whether the Extension of Security of Tenure Act or ESTA covers the spouse of a farm worker. Illegal initiation school operators could begin to feel the full might of the law from next year. Co-operative Governance Deputy Minister Obed Bapela has committed to ensuring that government passes a law to criminalise illegal schools, abductions and initiating boys under the age of 18. Bapela was speaking in Orange Farm, south of Johannesburg, where he was responding to a call by three parents whose children were abducted while playing soccer in the area, three weeks ago.
