An innovative housing pilot project has been launched in Mamelodi, east of Pretoria. An environmentaly-friendly structure is erected over an existing shack ensuring that the shack-owner does not have to relocate while their shack is being converted into a house. Tshwane Executive Mayor, Kgosientso Ramokgopa, says the coverted shacks, dubbed "the Lighthouse", take only four weeks to complete. The double-storey "lighthouse" which is rodent-proof also comes with superior thermal and acoustic features. Maluti Obuseng reports

Mineral Resources Minister, Mosebenzi Zwane, has told management at Impala Platinum Mine that his ministry will leave no stone unturned in determining the cause of fatal accidents at the mine. Last Tuesday a rock fall incident left one miner dead, while the other one remains trapped underground. The Southern African Confederation of Agricultural Unions is hosting its annual conference in Mbabane, Swaziland, this week. The two-day conference will see more than seventeen members of the union deliberate alternatives to changes brought about by Climate Change. The gathering comes amid a decrease in agricultural production due to the recent drought that has hit many countries in the SADC region. Monday the students of Fort Hare went on protest action demanding that management address their 16 demands before the 100-years celebrations, this as the university prepares to celebrate its centenary. Some of their demands are that those accepted by NSFAS, be given their meal cards with immediate effect and that the residence fee increment reversed. Some of the students were quoted as saying the celebrations won't go ahead until their demands are addressed by President Jacob Zuma.

Impala Platinum Mine near Rustenburg says chances of finding the missing miner still alive are getting slim. The mine revealed overnight that they found a body of one miner in an area with extremely unstable ground. The two miners were trapped underground on Tuesday following a rock fall. A community leader from Chibok in north eastern Nigeria says almost all the girls kidnapped over two years ago by Boko Haram are being held in the Sambisa forest. The leader was quoting a girl who has been rescued from the outskirts of the forest. Amina Ali Nkeki was found carrying a baby by an army-backed vigilante group in the Sambisa Forest, close to the border with Cameroon. Over 200 girls remain missing after their abduction from a secondary school in April 2014. The girls were taken by militants from Boko Haram.
