Schools in Vuwani are reported to have started on a slow pace yesterday with a low turnout and students left stranded without classes to attend to. Limpopo government says it has expected less that 50 percent turnout on the first day and that numbers to pick up as time goes on. More than 20 schools were burned down during violence, which led to a complete shutdown of schools for two weeks. Gauteng government has condemned what it calls the "rowdy behaviour" of a group of meter taxi operators. This after MEC for Roads and Transport in Gauteng, Ishmael Vadi was intimidated following an announcement that his department is to start issuing licenses to Uber drivers and regulate them like metered taxis in the province. The recent gang violence in the northern areas of Port Elizabeth, has attracted the attention of DA leader Mmusi Maimane. He paid a visit to the Ruiters family whose two-year-old daughter was killed when a stray bullet hit her in their yard in Helenvale. The EFF leader, Julius Malema, says if his party wins the Cape Town Metro, it will expropriate land without compensation. He was addressing party members in a packed Gugulethu Sport Complex on the Cape Flats. Malema says they are willing to test the Constitution in court regarding the land issue. Residents have been protesting against the inclusion of their areas into a new municipality. The violent protest action has left twenty schools gutted and vandalised. The Presidency has dismissed reports that Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan faces an imminent arrest.
